When a second battery is added to the vehicle, ie. camper van conversion etc, the Smartcom relay will allow charge through to the second battery, directly from the main battery. Charging will only take place when the engine is running and the batteries will be isolated from each other when the engine is switched off. There is no need for alternator connections as the relay goes directly between the 2 batteries. These relays are generally used in conjunction with a caravans 12S socket to allow power & charge to the caravans electrical system when traveling.

Not quite what I was expecting
In my non expert opinion this is NOT suitable for charging a motorhome leisure battery. The size of the wire (about 1.5mm cross section) and the construction of the relay do not scream heavy duty! That said it does work, and I'm going to use it in the car to charge a SMALL 18ah battery to run the radio and 12v sockets without the ignition on.

Does what it says, easy to fit, second one I've bought.
Second one of these I've bought. They pretty much do what they say on the label. In my camper conversion I have two batteries fed by a solar panel, and a third which feeds the inverter, which is fed off the main battery and one of these. Packaging says you need an electrician to install, but I've done both myself. (Disclaimer: don't hate me if you can't do it - it does need some practical hands!). Works exactly as described. Thanks.

Very effective.
Our leisure battery was only just showing a reading of 7, we bought this after readings reviews and it' s really good and show's battery instantly at 12.5. Very pleased and easy to fit.

Use this for my window cleaning van to charge the leisure battery up does an absolute fantastic job, definitely a good buy. Would highly recommend.
