I always install the opener without the track, it's easier to move the wall of the house if you measured wrong...I guess they will install the garage door trackon the right later as well...at least they have hardhats on

My drill fits fine. It is pretty big and will hold lots of stuff. It is well made and should do pretty well with heavier tools. It expands to about 10" across and is about 15" long. Hope this answers some of your questions.

How wide is the middle pocket? I want to put in a tray that is 3" thick. Does it stretch a little?

Yes, it comes with a plastic tray with about 50 little compartments in it and it is about 3 to 4 inches in debt, should be fine
