The Leather Stinks
This strap is uncannily similar to a Leica design, which I was originally going to purchase. In the end I chose this 'Crazy Horse' version though, to save money. I'm rather wishing I'd bit the bullet and bought the original - the Fujifilm X-T2 I'd be attaching to it cost plenty of money after all.Don't get me wrong, this is a sturdy enough strap, I just don't trust the leather. Removing it from the packet I was greeted with a strong smell of chemicals, which I noticed sent my air quality meter into a spin, with a large spike recorded in VOC's. Two weeks later the leather still stinks of chemical, and I worry what I might be getting on my hands and in my lungs. Cheap imported leather has been known to sometimes contain toxic chemicals, as scare stories in the press will affirm. The Leica original is a lot more expensive but made with saddle hide. That'll teach me to scrimp. In terms of size, this strap is 210mm long, end to end, and the leather is 8mm wide x 2mm thick.CONCLUSIONI wish I'd spent more and bought the Leica strap. Whenever possible I try and buy Veg tanned leather, for health and safety reasons, and if this strap had been vegetable tanned I'd be awarding five stars right now instead of warning you off it.
