Disney Pixar's “Finding Dory” reunites everyone’s favourite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. The soundtrack features score by Thomas Newman and a beautiful cover version of the classic Nat King Cole song “Unforgettable” by the popular Australian singer-songwriter Sia.

Found Nemo! Newman returns to find Dory as well!
It's hard to believe that "Finding Nemo" was released in 2003. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago! Thomas Newman returns to compose the score for this second film involving those characters and brings with him new themes and music that fits right in. With the story now focused on Dory, you'll only find hints of music from the first film and it makes this score feel less like a sequel but rather more like a new adventure altogether. The one thing you can count on however, is Newman's ability to create some very fun and atmospheric music that reflects the antics of the characters and the environment in which they live. Newman's instrumentation fits so well within this score and you can't help but visualize life under the ocean and the aquatic life that live there. Cues like "Lost at Sea" (track 3) reflect the physical vastness of the sea while "Migration Song" (track 5) briefly captures it's beauty. You can find plenty of fun within the score with quirky and catchy songs like "O, We're Going Home" (track 6) and in music bits like "Gnarly Chop" (track 8). "Gnarly Chop" is an especially fun piece that has that surfing/beach vibe to it and Newman's music makes me think of a tropical beach somewhere. We are introduced to some new characters as well like Hank (the octopus) and the cue "Hank" (track 11) seems to indicate something like you'd hear in a spy movie. It's a great piece to listen to and Newman does a fine job of tinkering with the sound of espionage and making it fun all the while. Other new characters like Becky and Destiny get musical introductions with "Becky Flies" (track 16) being one of my favorites because of the diverse movements and really elegant moments for the disheveled looking loon. I haven't seen the film, but I hear that this character really steals the show.Newman has crafted some very beautiful moments within the music and as I mentioned previously, he really has a knack for creating musical imagery of the ocean. Cues like "Open Ocean" (track 19) and one of my favorites "...Shells" (track 25) really do take you there. Newman uses instruments to create far off wails of sea creatures and echoey sounds that create ocean ambience. The score begins to come to an end with a great cue entitled "Fish Who Wander" (track 33) that bounces right along in a peppy way but suddenly shifts into a reprise of the angelic "Sigourney Weaver" music that was first introduced in track 10. The last track, "Release" (track 34), is a bit mysterious to me and seems to end in weird way with some birds squawking. I'll have to see how that one plays out in the film I guess. So while your stuck at work and thinking of your upcoming beach/tropical vacation, this music certainly has some great daydreaming moments for you until then. The score also includes "Unforgettable" performed by Sia. It's well done by the artist and the song is so fitting for this movie. The CD is released through Walt Disney Records and contains 34 tracks with a running time of 1 hour and 9 minutes. There is an 8 paneled fold out insert that contains photos from the movie, track listings, and orchestra/production credits. I recommend.

Child (& Myself) Loves This
Beautiful soundtrack. My step daughter is obsessed with the ocean and loved this movie. When we bought her the CD, she brought it everywhere with her, and listened to it to go to sleep every night. I have to admit I didn't mind when it was loud enough to hear in the hallway! Extremely relaxing (although some are more upbeat or suspenseful). I plan on downloading a few to my phone to listen to while relaxing. Would recommend! Especially to calm young kids after a long day.

Still a fan of Newman, but not one of his best works.
Not one of Thomas Newman's best. In fact only one track got my attention. Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorites. Still a fan of Newman though.
