Worth the price. Imagination soars!
I have too many quilt books. And most have never been opened. This volume is different. Full of color and lofty ideas. I enjoy the authors imaginative use of fabrics. Material Obsessions is my personal favorite from Kathy, but that certainly leaves room for all of her other books as well. She inspires me

How to make quilts like these.
I liked her book. Loved the colors she used.

More funky quilts!
I just received my copy of this book last night, and was delighted to find a number of funky designs that I definitely want to make. As an American, I find her Australian color selections to be different than what we typically see in the U.S., but that is precisely one of the things I find so attractive. Although I wasn't personally drawn to some of the color combinations in the book, I really loved many of the designs. The Folk Art Birds were a delightful silhouette, but combined with the wacky border, it was a great quilt. She also had done some very interesting things with a slight diagonal cut across a single block. I have been seeing one of those quilts featured in her wonderful blog, and was quite anxious to get my copy of the book so that I can re-create it. I am a big fan of the "Material Obsession" look, so if you have liked Kathy Doughty's work in the past, you will want to get a copy of this book!

The combination of a great book with well designed and very attractive projects make ...
The projects in this book are lovely with a combination of traditional designs with a modern outlook. The quilts seem simple until you look at the details. The format is well designed and attractive (even as an Kindle book). The content is relevant and well written. The projects looked simple when I first browsed through the book. I have since chosen a project to complete from the book and read through the project more thoroughly. As a beginner quilter, these projects will be a little challenging to complete, but I think the result will be well worth it.The combination of a great book with well designed and very attractive projects make this book a total winner for me. I will have to increase my (physical) library with the paperback edition of this book as well as the Kindle version.

Wish I Could Keep this Book a Secret
This is one of those books you'd like no one else to know about but you, it's that good. You want it to be your very own, special treat. However, I don't think it's possible. I have two of her earlier books, and they are some of the best eye-candy I own. I think this quilter has reached and is reaching masterpiece quilt designer status with book. I LOVE HER FABRIC CHOICES. They are wonderful juxtapositions of print and color that really work well in each of her designs. Some of the simpler designs are primal and primitive and they WORK. You could easily interpret each of her designs with your own fabric choices, using her quilts as inspiration. This is a book every daring and eclectic quilter/designer/artist would/should have in their collection.

Easy to follow instructions and new take on old patterns
There are at least 5 quilts going to make and have completed one. Love this designer.

Love this book
I made the Fractured Quilt - and found the directions clear. Overall, I always am interested in any books that the author puts out - as I love her sense of color, design - all very inspirational - although some are, I think, for more advanced quilters. My fractured quilt came out beautiful, and am eager to attempt several others in book!

Print on demand version = useless pattern sheet
Book content is great, but inthe print on demand version the pattern sheet comes printed on the last third of the book. In order to use them you are supposed to photocopy or trace the sheet onto a larger sheet somehow. I wish the description had mentioned this. The publishers site puts it this way; Pattern pullouts (if applicable) have been separated and presented as single pages.

Not a patch on Material Obsessions
Kathy Doughty's first 2 books written with Sarah Fielke (Material Obsessions 1 and 2) are on my list of all-time favourite quilt books. So I was looking forward to seeing this solo effort. Whilst it is well written (it's a French publication for Quiltmania translated into English) for me it doesn't pack the same punch as her previous 2 books - mainly due in my opinion to the fabrics chosen for her quilts - some very strange combinations and incongruous styles of patterns used in the same quilt. I preferred the cleaner, clearer colours of her earlier work. So my recommendation is to read the Material Obsession duo and then wait for Kathy's new book, 'Adding Layers' which is due in 2014 and hopefully a return to her brighter style.
