Just Because Board book – February 21, 2014

Could not rave more about this book. My daughter is non-verbal and non-ambulatory, and there aren't any books that hit the nail on the head. This one totally does it. Just Because is about a boy named Toby and his sister Clemmie. Clemmie is Toby's big sister. She can't walk or talk. But in Toby's eyes, she is amazing.Clemmie is a lot like a princess. (She doesn't "have to do much," and get's to "sit and look pretty.") Clemmie is never mean. She makes sweet sounds and funny faces. She has an awesome wheelchair and big curly hair. Most of all, Clemmie lets Toby be himself, without question or critique. She is his best friend, and he loves her. Just because.It's so, so very sweet and (for me) is a real tear jerker! Like Clemmie, my daughter with special needs is a best friend to everyone who lives under our roof. We wouldn't have the first idea how to exist without her. We don't define or understand her based on how she compares to us. We let her be her, and appreciate her subtleties and uniqueness. This is exactly the message that this book delivers.

I absolutely love this book and so do both my girls. My oldest daughter has special needs like Clemmie and looks very simalar to her, even down to the way she turns her eyes to the right. This is my one year old's favorite book to read each night. She wants me to read it to her and her big sister and then she will " read" it to us and point at all the pictures. This has beautiful pictures and a beautiful story of the love between siblings no matter their differences. Love it and can't wait to get the other book.

This book was so thoughtfully written. The beauty of it is in its simplicity. The love that the younger brother has for his older sister is effortless and endearing. Love to be able to have another tool to increase awareness of children with varying abilities.

Loved this book! It was perfect for my 5 year old to read, it reminded her about her baby sister who has cerebral palsy, and is unable to speak, or walk. Love it! And her baby sister has huge curly hair as well! Perfect!

I ordered this book and "Sometimes" to read with my little boy, who, like Clemmie, has profound special needs and a younger brother. This book made me cry, it was so gorgeous! The sweet thoughts of a little boy who just enjoys his older sister for who she is. No questions, just love. I highly recommend this book for ALL children; it should be in every school library and on every child's bookshelf at home.

Wish I could give this book 10 stars! I have a young daughter who is very much like Clemmie, the older sister in this book. We get a lot of curious stares from people, and we appreciate the open curiosity of young kids. This book does a wonderful job of normalizing our world, and helping kids to understand that sometimes people are different "just because." And best of all, it talks about all the fun and wonderful things about spending time with a sister like Clemmie. We hope this will help children reach out to their peers who are different. We've bought multiple copies of this book to share and donated some to classrooms and school libraries. We'd love for parents of kids of all ages to share this book with your kids, to open their world a little more.

The cutest, most heartwarming story. I bought it for my special needs son and we both enjoyed it immensely. Thank you to Rebecca Elliot for writing these beautiful stories :) I will be purchasing more from this author.

This is a fabulous book. My daughter loves it and it’s a great story to bring more inclusion and understanding into story time with your small people.

Bought this also for my grandson's 4th birthday in Jan 15. Out of the two books purchased I believe this is my favourite as it deals with a sensitive subject in a beautifully illustrated book. Well done.
