Q: hi. gas valve is problematic for me. Brass ring screws in to burner ok but the valve itself just slides into the brass ring? looks dangerous?

Hi, I thought the valve was not safe when connected I lite the barbecue and tested for leaks and found none, but I always turn the gas tank off when not in use. I have been using it since I purchased it and would not hesitate to buy another. Hope this answers your question. Doug

Q: what size of regulater or hose do i need for this?

Simplest solution is the Propane screw on Regulator, hose and clip Kit (£12.50 on Amazon by Greenhouse Warehouse). This will fit a standard calor gas bottle. If you use Butane, similar options are available on same page. Gas pipe is 8mm bore high pressure. Hope that helps.

Q: If I want to connect this to a small Cv470 gas canister, what hose and regulator do I need?

I personally do not think there is a separate regulator for this type of gas canister if I remember correctly the cv470 is a click fit unit personally i run mine on a small calor or camping gaz with relevant regulator and tube

Q: What happens to the fat that drips through?

It burns off and because of the heat in the lava rocks this in my opinion adds to the bbq flavour. I usually turn the rocks over before the next bbq as the burning helps to keep the rocks clean .
