This Book is a Blessing for Those Struggling with Alcoholism
This review is to address Hogweed's one star review. Hogweed, I beg to differ with you. When Bill Wilson died, his wife Lois contributed to a pamphlet that proved that Bill had been extremely interested, to the point of consulting with biochemists, about the causes of alcoholism. Someone of William Wilson's calibre would naturally have been curious about why he and so many others began their journey into alcoholism and why it was/is so hard to stop this journey. You may have been an alcoholic from your first drink, however many of those I have helped conquer alcoholism were not addicts from their first consumption of alcohol. Everyone's jouney into addiction is different, unique.I also want to point out that the biochemistry elements of this book are correct according to the experts I know, eg: leading professors in the field. I am an academic, my husband is an academic and these great minds are colleagues of ours. They wouldn't lie to us just because we are friends. For you to state so indefatigably that this book is dangerous, shocking and inaccurate appears to me to be dangerous, shocking and inaccurate. I'm not knocking AA; I think AA is amazing, many of my clients have benefited from this uber supportive and fantastic worldwide network. However I have also met many addict who could not benefit from AA .I believe that AA's adoption and adaptation of St Francis of Assisi's prayer was an incredibly wise move - it offers a rock upon which addicts, or any individual for that matter, can lean on. However, somewhere within your review I, personally, have failed to see St Francis of Assisi's profound search for wisdom: “Lord, grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”I believe that Abram Hoffer's book, 'The Vitamin Cure for Alcoholism' is correct scientifically and is a blessing to those who are struggling with alcoholism. Alcoholism exists and science makes new and exciting discoveries into discovering the answers to why it exists.Once upon a time people believed the sun moved around the earth. Once upon a time there was no cure for diabetes or consumption, nor did we have anti-biotics. Yet now we are understanding different cancers and how to cure them. We are establishing that in certain illnesses the brain's chemistry need certain substances in order to operate properly, we have a cure for RA, and a cure for MS is really close.Maybe you need the courage to change the things you can, and by this I mean that you need the courage to change your view of alcoholism and its causes, and then you need to seek the wisdom to realise that everyday great minds are finding cures for diseases and addictions that were once thought incurable.I truly wish you success as a recovering alcoholic. I also hope you will take another look at 'The Vitamin Cure for Alcoholism' and perhaps allow yourself to see its wisdom from a different viewpoint.Once upon a time we hanged or burned wise women who used herbs as treatments for ailments, calling them evil witches, yet out of their knowledge modern science was born.

Niacin.. an important nutrient for some
I trust Andrew Saul. I have heard him talk good sense on videos about nutrients. I bought this because a good friend needed some help. The person is putting this into practice and finding, so far it is helping. I found niacin helped with depression... Some people, he says have a niacin dependency so need much more than RDA.

Very useful book an hope for many people
Very useful book an hope for many people. A friend of mine who started to follow Dr Hoffer's recommendations (the book was bought for him) after a year is becoming a social drinker, and a week ago said to me that he cannot drink as much as in the past. Unbelievable! The bottom line is that you cannot be an alcoholic if don't suffer from some kind of metabolic disorder or deficiencies.

Overlooked remedy for alcoholism!
Alcoholism treatment in the US is way off base and doesn't get to the root cause of the problem. This book points the way to one overlooked pathway to overcome alcoholism successfully. The authors are long time pioneers in the subject and their knowledge should be used in every treatment center!!

Book in short, also change to healthy diet and sport.
What should the alcoholic do to help stop drinking and return his or her body to normal functioning? Supply the following nutrients to the body: 1. Vitamin C to saturation (on the order of 10,000 to 20,000 mg per day and more). High doses of vitamin C chemically neutralize the toxic breakdown products of alcohol metabolism. Vitamin C also increases the liver's ability to reverse the fatty build-up so common in alcoholics. To titrate to saturation, take 1000 mg of vitamin C every hour. When saturation is reached, there will be a single episode of diarrhea; then reduce the dosage to 1000 mg every four hours. 2. A B50-complex tablet (comprising 50 mg of each of the major B-vitamins, 6 times daily). And vitamine B3 (100 mg) several times daily. 3. L-Glutamine (2000 or 3000 mg). L-Glutamine is an amino acid that decreases physiological cravings for alcohol. It is one the two primary energy providers that burn glycogen to provide fuel to the brain and stimulates many neurofunctions. L- Glutamine is naturally produced in the liver and kidneys. Alcohol harms the kidneys and liver, thus supplementation is vital (concurrently reducing cravings for sugar and alcohol). 4. Lecithin (2 to 4 tablespoons daily). Provides inositol and choline, related to the B-complex. Lecithin also helps mobilize fats out of the liver. 5. Chromium (at least 200 to perhaps 400 mcg chromium polynicotinate daily). Chromium greatly reduces carbohydrate mis-metabolism, and greatly helps control blood sugar levels. Many, if not most, alcoholics are hypoglycemic. 6. A good high-potency multi-vitamin, multi-mineral supplement as well, containing magnesium (400 mg) and the antioxidants carotene and d-alpha tocopherol.

A must read for anyone with a problematic drinking habit
This book contains vital information for people suffering from over-consumption of alcohol. It may seem too good to be true but there's only one way to test it and that's by taking the suggested vitamins. It's incredible that AA don't promote this but, sadly, it might threaten their existence so they keep it quiet.

MAKE THIS BOOK KNOWN!
A must read for all people involved with treating alcoholism and mental illness depression for DOCTORS ,AAA MEMBERS, PSYCHIATRIST, PSYCHOLOGISTS. THIS CANADIAN DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARDED THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE FOR HIS DISCOVERIES IN REGARDS TO ORTHAMOLECULAR THERAPIES. I have seen at work for a brother with low blood sugar diagnosed by doctors as having schizo Frenia. For me I increased my B 3 to 500mg & B 1 to 200mgs and vitamin C to500mgs and experience my chronic pain in my legs gone after the first dose. Read any book writen by Dr Hofer I started Min1979 for a family member that was sick. May God Bless Him and all those in the medical profession who seeks to know the truth and cause rather than prescribing a drug that has extremely negative side effects.

Ist ein interessantes Buch eines alternativen Therapieansatzes für Alkoholsucht. Allerdings richtet sich das Buch an Laien, das zeigt schon die Schriftgröße in XXXXL Maulwurfsformat.
