great for very young children
I have purchased several of these books for my one year old daughter. They are very hard to find in stores, all of the new painting books come with a set of watercolors. Those sets don't have lids and are a big mess after one use. Plus, very little children have a hard time understanding the brush has to go into the water, then the paint each time. For "water coloring," with very little kids, I much prefer these books. They just dip their brush in water and away they go. The only thing I would change would be to make the pages thicker, as my daughter regularly wears holes into the centers of her "masterpieces." In terms of educational value, I generally do prefer blank paper and finger paint, acyrlics or tempera (something with wet paint that can be directly applied) and a more open-ended art experience. However, if you're in a situation where you want a fun activity without a lot of mess, this is a winner.

Basic color with water, but paper too thin
My 4 year old daughter loves paint with water books. The pictures are large, and she can color inside the lines as much as she's willing to at the time. But, my biggest problem with this book is that the paper is way too thin, after a few strokes, the paper is soaked!I will probably buy more paint with water books, but probably not from this brand again.

Fisher-Price Little People Paint with Water Book - Fun Around Town
Always get these for my grandchildren to paint. It has large pictures that are easy to make wet with the paint brush, and the pictures relate to what the grandchildren know and love to do. And, it is a lot less messy than having them use the regular paints. The water can be cleaned up rather easily.

Gift
This was a gift. I wanted to get something for a little girl while she travels. It does the job but wasn't crazy about the pages.

Paint with Water isn't as Fun as I Remembered
Maybe I need to give it another shot, but the painting with water just doesn't seem work that well. Also much more messy than I remembered. My daughter is young, so maybe would be better for an older child.
