... Soul we read "You won't have read a book like this before
From the blurb on the back of Science and the Soul we read "You won't have read a book like this before; although before its time it's still, paradoxically, redolent with long familiar themes." With chapter titles like Nothing, Time, Marvellous Mythology, and Neo- Darwinism Doesn't Work, the author sets out the clear thinking that needs to come before any wholesale acceptance of what Science deems true and incontrovertible. Here is a refreshing blend of ancient wisdom and an understanding of scientific processes which sets a challenge for the reader to reconsider perhaps long held concepts of life's big questions. The style is a surprise at first, but persevere as you will get the hang of it. There are flashes of brilliance to be had, this being the result of many years of work from a man who just could not let the underlying confusion he saw go unchallenged.

Star read!
“Your body is made of cells, cells are made of chemicals, chemicals of atoms and atoms aren’t alive. If atoms, molecules and cells aren’t, then your body isn’t. It might be a marvellous machine but it is not alive. So who are you? Are you alive or dead?”This is how Mike Pitman introduces a most extraordinary book as he begins his detailed answer. As the title suggests he rigorously interrogates materialism in a detailed and insightful way, while at the same time putting forward alternative ideas, some new, some reconditioned, that might explain the arrival of cosmos and earth-life.You would hardly expect a lightweight read for such a mighty subject. But Science and the soul embarks upon a most unusual, worthwhile and ultimately enjoyable odyssey through science and philosophy. Highly recommended for anyone interested in the origins and purpose of man.Tony Richards
