Wonderful book making photographing the Lake District easy
Purchased this book for a 3 day photographing trip to the lakes for the first time. What a godsend, you can select the area you wish to photo and all the information is there in the book. Postcodes where applicable, Grid references ,directions and so on. I found the beauty of the book where the photos showing you what the view was, so you know what to expect. There is also a Technique Section, a little basic if you are a seasoned photographer but great if you are relatively new to landscape photography. All in all one of my best photography purchases. 10 out of 10 from me.

Great book
This is the best book I've seen about photographing the lake district, extremely detailed with directions, maps, car parking and the sort of conditions you can expect to find. It's part of a series, including books about Cornwall, Scotland and the Yorkshire Dales. Highly recommended.

Always in the camera bag when out and about in the Lakes.
As an hobby photographer who loves visiting our beautiful English Countryside with my camera I have purchased a number of Fotovue Guides. They are the first guides I look to when planning a visit to a new area as they provide all the information required to ensure successful trips with my camera. They are a very useful addition to the camera bag, as alongside places to visit they providing technical photography information as well. The Lake District Guide I purchased as I live in the beautiful Lake District and I have favourite spots I enjoy visiting. I bought this guide to dip into, when I am thinking of a day out and considering where I should go. It has, however, prompted me to visit some new undiscovered places.I am sure I will be buying the Guide to North Wales for an up and coming trip this autumn.

Wonderful guide book for photographers and anyone really wanting to appreciate the landscape.
Update - Having now spent 10 days in the Lake District staying in Chapel Stile in a very nice cottage, I feel able to ad to comments on this fine book. It is not really a guide book, but the advice for locations is obviously from a local. The lack of maps, an index, mini indexes and so on is a major omission. Yes the photos are nice, but perhaps do not need to be so big. Frankly the inclusion of exposure data is of no interest - the effort would have been far better spent on a good index! But strongly recommended!I have been studying this book with great interest. I am a landscape and nature photographer myself as well as a travel writer. This book is very well designed with superb print quality. I have only given it four stars for a number of reasons. Firstly it is overpriced to sell in big numbers. My 384 page Dorset Guide Book sells at £14.95 for example. The size is just a little bit too big for most pockets so I would prefer slightly smaller pictures and 2cm cut off the width maybe 1cm off the height too. It is quite heavy also. But my biggest gripe is the lack of an index. This is a serious omission. There is also a general lack of mini indexes through the book. Finally the various walks and routes do not have clear distances and access times indicated consistently within the text though there are ditance tables at the back. All of this said it is a wonderful publication which does what it sets out to do extremely well. The text is very readable and full of interesting comments. I do find some of the advice regarding techniques slightly dated, particularly exposure. They certainly apply to older cameras, but many of today's DSLRs are essentially "ISO invariant" and have a dynamic range of nearly 14 stops at base ISO. This means that "shooting to the right" is in fact no longer necessary or even a good idea.. A much better approach is to do the same as with transparencies, expose for the highlights and lift the shadows later in Lightroom or Photoshop. I was also surprised that the author did not push the use of RAW files much harder. All said and done this is a marvellous book and is very strongly recommended. The addition of an index and a few other thing would have given it 5 stars.

Another winner from FotoVue!
I bought this after being bowled over by the quality of the Peak District guide. Myself and the wife were planning a camping trip to the Wasdale area to tackle Scafell Pike and maybe squeeze in a few photography sessions. Being the Lake District I knew there would be a treat for the eyes everywhere we looked, but it was only when I received this book I realised how fortunate we were to be staying near Wast Water, which I found out is regarded as 'Britain's favourite view'! Cha-ching! Not knowing the area at all this section of the guide was invaluable, and despite the poor weather I still managed to come away with a few shots I was pleased with. The book itself has the same level of detail that impressed me so much with the Peak District guide so I can't recommend this highly enough. The info held within will definitely influence where we stay on our next camping trip up to the Lakes!

Inspiring
Full of inspirational ideas for visiting/photographing the Lake District. Along with providing some great images, Stuart Holmes makes the perfect guide throughout the book, detailing some of the most picturesque spots in this beautiful part of England.I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone considering visiting the Lakes, whether they have an interest in photography, or not. Or to those who have visited before and are maybe looking for further inspiration. So much thought has been presented throughout this book including; car park post codes/grid references, photo metadata, wheelchair access information, distance to viewpoints from car parks, photographic tips, and so much more.I will be definitely pursuing further books within the Fotovue series. Highly recommended.

Excellent Photography Guide Book
I bought this book back in December 2018 as I was planning a visit to the Lake District. I already had a couple of locations planned to visit, but this book gave me a few more ideal locations whilst I was in the Lakes, and I came home with some great photos even though the weather wasn't great. I also have the Photographing The Peak District book, which I have used a few times, and prompted me to buy the Lake District 1. Once my health improves, I plan on using both books again, and am even planning on buying a couple more.
