All 14 episodes from the first season of the Japanese anime following the efforts of four high school girls to save their school music club. Arriving for her first year in high school, Yui Hirasawa (voice of Aki Toyosaki) is eager to find a club to join. Meanwhile, drummer Ritsu Tainaka (Satomi Sato), her friend, bassist Mio Akiyama (Yoko Hikasa), and keyboard player Tsumugi Kotobuki (Minako Kotobuki) are trying to save the school's music club, which is set to close due to low numbers. After Yui joins the band playing castanets, the other members soon begin to realise they've accidentally discovered a guitar hero. The episodes are: 'Disband the Club!', 'Instruments!', 'Cram Session!', 'Training Camp!', 'Advisor!', 'School Festival!', 'Christmas!', 'Freshman Reception!', 'New Club Member!', 'Another Training Camp!', 'Crisis!', 'Light Music!', 'Winter Days!' and 'Live House!'. Review: An Absolute Gem - This is what Kyoto Animation does best. (if you want plot you can read other reviews) It's easy for many to dismiss this as just moe rubbish about a whole load of nothing, and it does seem to be an anime that divides many fans, there are those who will do essays about just how good this show is, and then there are those who just don't see what those people see in K-On! I am firmly in the love it category of anime fans The animation is some of Kyoani's finest, there is an abundance of visual storytelling in this anime. The characters are where this anime shines, as this is slice of life it is all about the characters and they do not disappoint. This series and the second series (and film) is all about watching them grow as people, become close friends, overcome their own obstacles without becoming a teenage angst drama. The Light Music Club is the perfect mirror for this as they create a band and learn how to play, improve, find their role and place, overcome stage fright and performance worries and move into bigger performances and better things. Now don't let this anime fool you if you think this is about music and a band and you want to watch it for those reasons, yes the music is great, yes they are a band and they put on shows, but primarily this anime is about a group of friends who happen to be in a band, and they will often goof off and goof around, and it is more about those moments than any other, because as they themselves put it, the downtime and time spent messing around is just as important to them as is the time practicing. This anime is easy watching slice of life, it is fun, it will make you laugh and it will make you cry, it lets you feel like you know the cast, that you are part of the group of friends, if you love it you will watch it time and again, it is sublime. Review: Funny and awesome - Ive seen around 10 anime shows, this is my favourite so far, The show is basically about 4 girls that make a band, get on really well and eat a lot of cakes. The closest thing ive seen to it is Clannad, though k-on is not romance focused and it seems to have a lot more jokes, there is a lack of what I would call story development compared to most animes, but its not really important to me as the show is more about the characters personalities. I like all of the characters, they are all good in different ways, I feel I know them very well despite only seeing a couple of hours of the show. Yui the main character is highly adorable but Mio is the best, shes quite elegant, more sensible than the rest but also rather sensitive. If you've not seen anime before you might find this a little bit odd ( for example the Moe Moe Kyun part ) There is usually an english language version on the disk I recommend the japanese version as its the original. Watched the first episode yesturday though and noticed the subtitles are terrible ! one of the worst ive seen, the text is bright yellow and blocky/pixelated, it looks awful, and the translation, while accurate, doesn't convey the sentiment of the original words properly, its most likely been done by an american despite it being a european release, for example there is a part where mio is supposed to say 'she has no tempo', but its subtitled as 'what a spaz', this happens throughout, not just in one part. It will probably change peoples impression of the characters if they haven't seen the show already.

Stummbled upon this by accident, now one of my all time favourites!
I love this series! So easy going, fun and extremely funny! The english Dub is superb! 10/10 I came across this series by mistake and it's one of the best mistakes I've ever made! xD All of the characters in this are cute and loveable! Especially Yui and Mugi :) I can relate to Yui in that she likes her food :P I don't want to give too much away incase anyone reading this hasn't watched it yet so I'll leave it at that. This Anime makes for a nice change in pace from the usual stuff I watch like Akira, Highschool of the Dead and Ghost in the Shell. This really is a unique series in my opinion, one of the cutest and I'd strongly suggest watching Season 2 and the Movie if you enjoy this first Season :) I hope this messy review helped you in some way :)

The Kayoto Animation Moe Variety Hour
Anyone familiar with Kayoto Animation knows they have two type of anime: fast paced, female-led quirky comedies with out-there concepts (that'd be your Melencoly of Haruhi Suzumiya, Fullmetal Panic? Fumoffu, & Lucky*Star), and slow, male-led, moe, slice-of-life comedy dramas with THE MOST stunningly beautiful animation that utilize colour and light in ways that stand head and shoulders above all competitors, and throw emotional punches that could break a golums' heart (Air [perhaps the most traumatising thing until someone splices Mufasas' death scene into Schindlers List], Kanon & Clannad/After Story). K-on! is the latest to reach UK shores (though unfortunately we are still forced to import most of their other catalogue) and falls somewhere between the 2 varieties; a female ensemble that plods along nicely and a virtually non existant plot - not that this is a criticism, for it's all about the gradual growth of the cast and their development as musicians. Charm is heaped on in droves, so fans of moe will be thrilled and should buy it up instantly regardless, and it is impossible not to have fallen for the girls charms by the close of ep.2, in addition to genuinly laugh out loud comidic turns that carry Kyoto's trademark ability to derive great comic timing from sight gags, dialogue, expressions/reactions, and slapstick. This may not be a series for newcomers to the genre (Haruhi is perhaps a better bet to begin on), and fans of more serious, action/psychological/philosophical orientated animes may fail to be won over by the painfully sweet charm, however those who like gentle, funny shows with lovable characters WITHOUT having to resort to self-harm to take your mind from emotional trauma that'll haunt you to the grave (looking at you Air), then K-on! comes highly recommended* *For the record, I got into anime some years ago via the exquisitly magnificent Neon Genesis: Evangelion. Basically if a fan of philosophical sci-fi mecha epics can state a fluff piece about high school girls forming a band is in his top 10, then you can vouch on my impartial opinion as that of a guy open to all anime, not predisposed to only a certain [sub]genre.

Delicious
It's a delicious little anime about a group of girls setting up their own light music club, which eventually will become a full-fledged band by the end of the anime. The series consist of 12 episodes plus 2 extra episodes. I felt kinda sad when everything finished, since I really loved this series. I recommend it to all fans of anime and especially those who like stories with a beautifully crafted plot, deep, all-round characters with a generous topping of cuteness. K-On! More songs about staplers and cake
It's really about tea and cake. They turn into great musicians in a very short time - but I'm not complaining, even if I struggled for years to nowhere as good as them. Like Azumanga Daioh!, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and the Haruhi Suzimiya releases, it's a great depiction of Japanese school life.

Amazing
I bought the DVD sets a few years ago and really enjoyed them - I decided that it was time to rewatch them - I think that they are better on a second viewing. They are not deep - the girls don't have any amazing adventures - except that the whole thing is an adventure - it's all just fun - the music is fun, the humour is fun, the characters are fun, the situations are fun - it's like a book that you just can't put down. Just watched the Romeo & Juliet episode (and several others) - really good. Who does songs about staplers and cuddly toys?? Not in the same song I should say - in case you thought someone might be doing something horrible to cuddly toys!!!!

It's a nice show to watch when you're feeling tired and don't ...
It's an entertaining series, and the characters are interesting (though a bit childish.) However, the "Everyone eats cake instead of practicing" joke gets old very quickly. Since nothing emotionally dramatic happens, it's also difficult to emotionally invest your self in the characters. It's a nice show to watch when you're feeling tired and don't want to think too hard.
