Not great, the gel is too hard for the ants ...
Not great, the gel is too hard for the ants to burrow through which is a shame as I have had a gel ant farm previously that worked well.

Ants love it
Collected two dozen Southern fire ants, and they began tunneling six hours later. Now, at three weeks, the gel looks like Swiss cheese and the same ants are still happily at work.

Always interesting to observe
I buy these every year for my elementary students. (Like over 15 years) Odd thing with this bunch of ants was that they hardly worked! They were on vacation. Had another ant farm next to this one. All ants arrived from the same place the same day. The other ants worked non-stop. We enjoyed watching and speculating. The vacationers outlived the workers. Was this the lesson for us? Hmmm.

It was the worst gift I bought for my grandsons for Christmas.
I followed the instructions when the ants came. They keep building up bubbley looking mounds on the top of the gel. They very rarely go into the holes. I would like to send it back and get a refund.

The new gel idea over the classic sand rather sucks, the ants didn't really wanna start digging. And i got fresh ants from outside, yea they dug a little bit but now the gel is i guess you would say " served" its time? I recommend thhe old fashioned "sand" farm
