Thought-provoking page-turner
A prion-based 'mad cow' epidemic with its roots in ancient Mayan culture, and a race agains time to save humanity from extinction, as this always fatal plague blossoms at a geometric rate. Well-written and compelling, with sufficient 'pseudo-science' and ancient, Central American history to keep me turning those pages until I finished the book in a mere two days. I thoroughly enjoyed the read, and the only thing holding me back from awarding an unreserved 5 star accolade is that I found the characterisation just a wee bit one-dimensional. I never really felt that I got to grips with any of the key players in any depth, so for me, that was the difference between 'very good' and 'top notch'. Buy it anyway. Its good 'holiday read' fodder.

very topical
This was a well crafted book with lots of information that was new to me. The premise of a lost civilization wreaking havoc on the modern world is not a new one, but this contains an interesting slant linked to the recent 2012 'end of the world' hysteria. A plausible story line and believable characters. Don't expect a literary masterpiece, but the writing is good and solid, which is more than one can say for a lot of modern authors.

Great reading.....
This book mixed fact with fiction, in a way that I have only seen a few times before. Not everyones cup of tea, but if you are interested in Mayan history and their way of life, and are curious about what may be / or may not be on the 21.12.12 have a read!

Very unusual and dramatic story about the possibility of the world ending as per an ancient prediction. A real 'page turner' which carries the reader along but which also manages to weave in a lot of cultural and historical information. Brilliant and well worth buying.
