That's simply not true. It contains 8 PHYSICAL CORES, plain and simple. Where people are confused is that there are 4 floating point units, each shared by 2 cores each. A slightly different design than what has been implemented by Intel but it's 8 cores nonetheless and all benchmarks that push the limits of multi-threaded performance have proven this processor to be superior in multi-threaded applications to a 4 core variant. Is it worth the upgrade? Yes and No. Why yes: Because each physical core is on a newer architecture. Simply put, Piledriver offers a 6% percent improvement in single threaded applications and an 8% improvement in multi-threaded applications over the Bulldozer core that the FX-4100 is built on. When hard clocked to the exact same speed per core, the FX-8320 or 8350 or 8370 will out perform the 4100 by 6 - 8%. And the FX-8320 can overclock to anywhere between 4200 - 4500 MHz per core (a few have hit 4.6 GHz). So if you are able to OC at all, you'll get better speed per core + better performance per MHz + more cores. You do the math. Better is better. Want proof? Google "AMD's Bulldozer core compared with Piledriver" and go to the first website that pops up. They break it down and detail it very thoroughly.Why No: Two reasons. Reason 1.) Because I don't think a 6% increase in performance is worth the cost. Yes, I know it has 8 cores but games don't use 8 cores yet. Most don't anyway. Reason 2.) Because Zen is just around the corner. Zen processors greatly out perform Piledriver processors in that they accomplish much more per clock cycle. They also use less power and will run along side DDR-4 memory and not to mention PCI-E 3.0 video cards, if that matters. Save a little more money and wait to get a Zen CPU + motherboard + Memory if you can. If you can't, then you should wait until Zen releases to buy a FX-8320, 8350, or 8370 because the price will drop way down. It's coming in the first quarter of 2017 (Jan - Feb probably). **Q: Will this work with a H87-G43 military class 4 mother board? It says the socket is LGA 1150..** A: No. That board is only compatible with Intel socket LGA1150 processors.
