Temperature at a Touch
The range of the spike is -50 (yes minus) degrees Celsius to approximately 300 degrees Celsius, it has a simple press button to change to Fahrenheit (which is -58 F to 572 F). It comes ready to use, simply unfold the spike, and press the red 'on/off' button, and you're ready to go!Push the probe into your food (thickest part), or drink, wait 5 seconds and it's ready to read. Press the 'hold' button then when you remove the spike from the food, the display stays at the temperature your food was. I usually need reading glasses but I can read the 1cm high numbers clearly without them, which is a real bonus in the kitchen when there's steam about! So far I have tested, boiling water (100C) my fridge (4C) My freezer (-9.7C) - I held it under the frozen peas, and it did take longer than 5 seconds to count down, my rare beef (61C), a roast chicken (80C), cup of tea for drinking temperature (65C), today's air temperature (21.7C) - my kids have now got it and are busy testing anything they can find!Clean by wiping the spike, and straight back in the draw. The battery (one AAA) is easily replaceable, however I doubt this would be necessary very often - as it turns off automatically after 10 minutes if no buttons have been pressed. Do not leave it in the food while cooking in the oven. It comes with a reference guide of temperatures on the packet, however a small laminated copy of this or to have them printed onto the gadget would be useful. The kids are back and apparently a perfect strawberry milkshake needs enough ice cream to bring it down to 2C - humm I'd best go clean the kitchen then...

Great piece of kit.
Up to recently I've been using an old fashioned meat thermometer that belonged to my late mother, which I have suspected for a while now hasn't been working properly.Anyway, after all but incinerating some brined pork chops the other day, I decided enough was enough and it was time for modernisation. As ever with these types of purchases I did loads of research in advance before finally opting for the Thermaspike and I must admit I am extremely impressed.Very fast, consistently accurate, and for old American recipes, it even gives an option to switch to Fahrenheit. So well impressed, and I'm afraid its time for my old thermometer to be binned!

Broken but The Lifetime Guarantee has no return address to send it back to MadBuy Ltd
Worked very well but unfortunately has now stopped working. A row of dots and nothing else. A new battery does not help.I notice that there is a "lifetime" guarantee but unfortunately having lost the return address I cannot do this.Amazon quite rightly say that this is beyond there usual guarantee period which I quite understand.

Good thermometer but not that quick.
It's a perfectly accurate thermometer and I like that it turns off when you close it, but it advertises itself as super fast and it simply isn't. On the box it says "within 5 seconds", which it doesn't say in the description so be warned that if you need quick temperature readings this isn't the thermometer for you. On the other hand, if you want a reasonably priced, accurate thermometer that works well for most kitchen applications you can't go far wrong with this.

I keep it in its original packaging in the drawer as it has a useful temperature/cooking guide on the cardboard outer
Having never used a jam/candy or meat spike thermometer before, I bought this when I needed accurate temperature readings when making Italian meringue icing. It served its purpose perfectly, but I found that since buying it, I also now use it when cooking meat roasts, etc. I keep it in its original packaging in the drawer as it has a useful temperature/cooking guide on the cardboard outer. Great thing to have.

Best one of its type I have used.
Best one of its type I have used.Have a physical switch operated when the probe it pushed against the body so saves battery.Normal battery hatch so easy to change when you do need to.Responds quite rapidly. Also if, like myself, your better than 20-20 is somewhat faded then the large display is a bonus as I don't have to grab my reading specs to check it.

I am disappointed with the thermometer
I am disappointed with the thermometer, however having said that I'm not too sure if i'm at fault. Having nothing that explains how it should be used & what temp are correct for what foods I'm testing, also when reheating cooked foods, I've now put it in the draw & don't use it. I understand that there is an ebook available & I've tried to download it without success.

Not an unreasonable one though for what is a good quality product
A little on the pricey side compared to the damaged Salter device it was bought to replace. Not an unreasonable one though for what is a good quality product. Couldn't be easier to use and appears to be accurate. As claimed, it has a very fast response. Very easy to use and I like that it's powered by an AAA battery rather than the button Lithium type that many similar devices use - we always have spares!
