Review: Beyond "Fear": Why child psychologists (and my 7yo godson) love this book - The Jesus Storybook Bible, Anglicised Edition by Sally Lloyd-Jones is a rare gem among Christian children’s books.✝️📚 While it is not a full-text Bible, it is a masterfully written collection of Bible stories that truly makes every narrative whisper His name. I recently bought this for my 7-year-old godson, and his reaction says it all: "It is one of my favourite books and it isn't even funny." This is high praise from a boy who usually only engages with humorous chapter books; it has captured his heart and mind in a way no other Bible storybook could. A New Perspective on Understanding ✨🎓 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all understanding and this children's Bible storybook helps a child understand this "fear"more concretely as a profound, reverent awe of a God who pursues us. While the author takes some artistic liberties with the Bible stories - as other reviewers have noted - she does so to emphasise God’s "Never Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love." ❤️ Crucially, she shifts the focus from a list of rules to a grand Gospel-centred rescue story. According to child psychologists, this emphasis on love rather than abstract fear is highly developmentally appropriate for 4-10 year old children, as it provides the emotional security needed to process complex faith concepts. It stands to reason that for children who have experienced any kind of trauma, this focus on a "Never Stopping Love" is doubly important. I have no idea if the author herself is trauma-informed, but her text definitely is; it offers a safe, healing, and consistent lens through which a child can view God's character. Why I Highly Recommend It: • Accessible Theology: It reframes complex biblical themes into a narrative of a "Brave Rescuer," making the core message of Scripture accessible to little ones, without being "twee." • Stunning Illustrations: 🎨🖌️Jago’s vibrant artwork perfectly complements the poetic, Anglicised text, making it a visually engaging Bible for toddlers and primary-aged children alike. • The Perfect Religious Gift: ✝️🎁 Because it connects the entire narrative into one cohesive arc, I highly recommend it as a meaningful infant baptism gift, Christening present, or child dedication gift. This is a beautiful, informative resource for family reading that helps children (and adults!) see that true understanding begins with knowing how much we are loved. It is easily one of the best Bible story collections available in the UK today for those wanting to share the heart of the Christian faith with children. ❤️✝️
Review: I really love it - I have few Bible stories at home, but they overlooked lots of details in the story, this one is really different in a good way!! Very good explanation of each story, nice format, easy to read and my kids love reading them by themselves. This stories are written in a way that my kids feel that they are part of that story too. Once again very good written, detailed which leave my kids with good imagination of what the story is about, which leads us to a good Bible study with kids!!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Beautifully told!
*by M***Y on 9 November 2010*

I came across this bible when babysitting for a friend's child, and have now bought it for my own children and as a gift for others. The stories are beautifully told - a little poetic licence is taken here and there, largely it adds to the story, but occasionally is not to my taste (eg 'Hello light' in the creation account). As with all children's bibles the stories have been chosen from the bible and therefore there is a lot missing - I find it frustating when teaching sunday school that often the story I want is not in any children's bible! Often I think that difficult stories have been tackled well - eg the story of Abraham being asked to sacrifice Isaac is often one which we gloss over with children, as many adults find it more difficult to comprehend than the children we are explaining it to, I think the author tells the story beautifully - I'm not an emotional person, but more than once have been choked up reading this! The author is sensitive to her readers, there are areas where she may be accused of glossing over - eg she tells us Joseph was imprisoned for something he didn't do - which I feel then leaves the parent to make a choice if and when to explain further and to what extent. Perhaps it does not dwell sufficiently on the sin aspect of the gospel, although it reiterates in almost every story that Jesus 'rescues' us, but again, that leaves a responsible parent to explain at will - we can't leave the whole job to a children's bible can we? It is regrettably rare to come across a children's bible as well told, which makes it clear that the whole bible is all about Jesus. I also own the Big Picture Story Bible and I love having the combination of the two as this minimises gaps. It could be made better by adding more stories please!
