.co.uk Tosca is the remix brainchild of Richard Dorfmeister (of Kruder and Dorfmeister fame) and Rupert Huber. Over the course of a couple of albums and a slew of remixes they have marked themselves out as elegant shifters of sound, creating their own multi-coloured soundtracks as well as reworking records by a host of like-minded individualists. Souvenirs is where the duo invite many of these same friends to remix their recent J.A.C. album. Just like the original version, this collection of re-imaginings is pretty patchy. There are great moments from Burnt Friedman (who opens proceedings with his mix of ‘John Lee Huber’), Senor Coconut (with his chasophisticated take on ‘The Big Sleep’) and new G Stone signings,Makossa and Megablast, who take ‘Heidi Bruehl’ into newly tectonic territory. There are lots of almost-great tracks too, but the overall mood if of an indifferent mediocrity, making it difficult for this album to stand up to the usual high calibre of Tosca/G Stone releases.--Paul Sullivan
