    Excellent prog-heavy post-rock

*by T***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 September 2017*

Excellent prog-heavy post-rock. Hard to compare to anything else (for me anyway). Wikipedia quotes a review which described them as "Soundgarden, Tool, Black Sabbath, Oceansize and Pink Floyd taking copious amounts of mind-altering substances and venturing on a trip through time and space (to another dimension), and back again." and says "their music is characterised by guitarist Sel Balamir's effect pedals, Matt Brobin's complex drumming, extended heavy sections, atmospheric compositions and philosophical lyrics." All sounds about right to me.I started with their 2017 album and rapidly bought up the entire back catalogue! This (their first) album and The Octopus are my favourites, though there isn't a bad one in there.

A grand mixing of alternative & gloomy prog rock

*by J***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 September 2004*

Amplifiers eponymous debut is a fine example of modern rock with a slightly retro feel.It is an album composed of a single mood. Melodic but downbeat with most of the tracks delivered in mid-tempo with a bass heavy, slightly fuzzy, feedbacky sound.More of a stoner groove rather than full on rock (foot-tapping and swaying rather than vigorous headbanging) and occupying a middle ground somewhere between Pearl Jam's Ten, Soundgarden's Superunknown and Tool's Lateralus. Despite these exhalted comparisons and the fact that Conspiracy, Panzer, One Great Summer and the opener Motorhead are all very good songs, the album does just lack that killer track (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) .My only real issue is with the extended intros and outros that appear on a few of the songs. It's the kind of over-indulgence that is ok when you are in the mood, but I think it will begin to irritate me after a while.None the less, this is a very accomplished and confident debut and I recommend that you give it a spin.
