Knife Bluntener
Perfect item if you want to make all your knives blunt. There is no reason for these good reviews other than people with low expectations or people who are used to using blunt knives. A sharp kitchen knife is great, you can cut through things like tomatos effortlessly without "smooshing" them, it is worthwhile to have a good knife with a sharp edge.I spent about 10 minutes running a knife through it to test it out and it wouldn't sharpen. I suspected the sharpener was bad, so decided to do an experiment. I got a craft knife which was perfectly sharp, it sliced through paper it effortlessly. I then proceeded to run that same craft knife though the "fine" section of the sharpener 4 or 5 times and tried to cut the same paper, the knife now barely cut the paper without a sawing motion and you could see paper fibres and 'tears' instead of a clean cut you would get on a sharp knife. The craft knife I ran through it was literally more blunt after using this 'sharpener'. What a waste of my time and a perfectly good craft knife blade. I almost never leave poor reviews, most items I get off amazon are great, but this knife "sharpener" is an absolute joke. After inspecting it further and trying to fathom just how it could be so bad, I think I found the cause. Just look at the angle of the rods inside the sharpener, it will give you a good indication of how blunt your knife edge will be after using this. Your knife's edges will be the same angle as those rods, is that what you want? I have attached a photo so you all can see.Don't get me wrong, this sharpener does add an edge to a blunt blade and it will cut easy things like vegetables, however, it falls short of its claims of being a "premium knife sharpener" and "No. 1 choice for professional chefs" both of which are undoubtedly lies. The edge it forms on your blades is lackluster.

Simple tool with amazing results
I love to cook (as an amateur), therefore I was looking for a good knife sharpener but couldn't decide as there is a plethora of offers. After checking most of them I have decided on a two-stage one as I thought that one-stage sharpeners would remove too much steel from the knife, no matter how sharp it is. The one from Harcas ticked all the boxes as I won't need to use the first stage unless the knife is really blunt.I'm very happy with my decision, I have tried it on different types of knifes, hardened or not and the results were amazing. It even works on large serrated knives (such as bread knives); I didn't try it on steak knives as they are still very sharp but I don't think there will be any problem. In less than 10 seconds a quality knife will be razor-sharp and, by using only the second stage, you can maintain its sharpness and extend its usage life.As a bonus, the seller sent me an ebook "Secret of The Chinese Takeaway Chefs" which was a fun read and a £5 voucher for future purchases of their products. I'm not by any means a professional, but for a home cook, the product does exactly what I was expecting - keeping my knives sharp. Highly recommended!

You're never going to learn how to use a whet stone, buy this instead.
I always poo-pooed this sort of knife sharpener. Bought some good kitchen knives and when they started to get blunt (they got really blunt before I considered sharpening them) I decided to learn how to use whet stones and make them the sharpest knives known to man with a bountiful bushy beard to boot.Months after buying the kit, it ended up lost somewhere in the back of a cupboard and my knives were still more squashing than cutting their way through meat and veg. Plus, a dull knife blade is supposedly more dangerous than a sharp one (though the first few tries of using brand new good quality knives was a painful experience). So instead of buying new knives, I bought this Harcas device as it looked simplicity in itself (plus it cost about as much as getting three knives sharpened at an ironmongers).Following the instructions I quickly found the knives were way sharper after little work. I can now slice tomatoes as thinly as I used to and have once again cooked my Remy's Ratatouille recipe which involves much thin slicing of vegetables. Recommended.

Great for non-Japanese knives
Already have a Minosharp system for my Global knives but it doesn't work on my non-Japanese knives (something to do with blade cutting angles I believe) hence this purchase.Must admit that my first impressions of the Harcas unit are pretty good as its twin sharpening system both sharpens up dullish blades and also delivers a final razor edge to any already sharp knives. So my "cheapo" Thomas" Tesco sourced knives have now been given a new lease of life and we also use it to hone our special Spanish Serrano ham knife. All in all then a great price of kit, you dont have to fill it with water all the time, and a lot less expensive than the Minosharp system where new grinding wheels cost in excess of a tenner each.Quite how long the Harcas will last before wearing out I have no idea but for the moment certainly worth five stars and more,

It's OK
It's OK, not a magic bullet. Helps keep knives sharp but doesn't make them much sharper

very effective sharpener
This style of sharpener was recommended to me by the chef at a cookery school so I bought it. I don't know much about the different designs of sharpeners, but my knives are now insanely sharp after using this one. I just give a knife three long strokes through the fine side of this and wipe the knife clear before use - the difference is amazing. Transformed all the knives on my knife rack. Be warned - the downside of such an effective sharpener is that you have to treat your knives with respect - they now get washed very carefully, not just chucked in the sink!!

Sharpener and service
Does exactly what it is meant for - sharpens knives very well. The company that supplied the sharpener sent an email with helpful tips on the best uses for the sharpener and honing tool plus a £5 voucher to use at their store. This is a very nice extra touch, makes you feel like your custom is appreciated and repeat custom wanted.

Seems to do a good job.
It seems to do a good job. It seems a very simple gadget. I sharpened a very blunt knife and it is much better. In fact, I didn't realise how sharp some of my knives are since I used this and now I have little cuts on my thumbs and fingers.
