(The older one is like a computer tablet while this one is like a piece of plastic) The quality of this one was so bad I had to send mine back. It didn't look that good when you write on the screen and also marks started appearing on the screen from touching the screen and with the older model only the pen made marks on the screen. It is a flat button 3volt CR2016 Lithium battery that goes in a chamber located at the top right corner of the board. You need a small Phillips screwdriver to open the chamber. Look for a tiny screw at the top and a "thumbprint" indentation along the top edge. It is very inconspicuous. **Q: Can you back up your notes as you erase them on the app? Will I be able to see what i wrote yesterday on the app and for how long is it stored?** A: 8.5 doesnt allow for sync. the only app available is call JOT which is just to take a picture of what you have drawn. after erase on the 8.5, nothing can be done to retrieve it back. **Q: After all of the negative reviews I'm afraid to buy. Did Amazon just get a bad batch?** A: I'm not sure what happened and why there are negative reviews. This is a great product and you should definitely buy this product.
