## Description

Few creatures symbolise the beauty of the natural world better than birds. Their delicacy, poise and power combine to create an irresistible subject for the artist. In this his first book, award-winning artist Alan Woollett captures perfectly, in breathtaking detail, the exquisite beauty of birds in their natural environments using graphite and coloured pencils, often combining both media in the same composition. More than a teaching guide, this book is a sumptuous source of ideas and inspiration that covers everything from observing birds in the wild to photography, composition and setting. With clear, step-by-step demonstrations and projects to work through as well as numerous examples of the author's stunning artworks, this book represents a true masterclass in the art of drawing birds.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A useful and informative book on bird art in coloured pencil.
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 10 February 2026*

Alan is an accomplished bird artist using coloured pencils. A lovely book showing Alan's work and process. It's a shame it's now out of print. Would recommend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great book to improve your artwork or to just read and enjoy Alans beautiful paintings.
*by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 18 April 2023*

This book is brilliant. Alan Woollett gives information on how to capture your subject, how to trace, what equipment you need , which is pretty minimal considering the quality of the final work, and many useful tips. For the projects he lists all of the colours he uses, how and where to use them, and also provides lots of information about the backgrounds too, so it isnt solely about birds. Its a book I would happily recommend to anyone interested in using coloured pencils and wanting to learn more, but its also an interesting book to just sit and read and marvel at the beautiful artwork Alan produces. I have a fair few co!oured pencil books but this is one of my favourites - and at a great price too.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant book.

Brilliant book by a brilliant artist who loves birds, what more is there to say!
