Being Human: Series Two [DVD]

Moving, funny, sad, scary... and very human
8 episodes. While still uneven at times, with it's goofy moments of humor not always meshing smoothly with it's darker andmore emotional sides, the series has grown a bit in it's 2nd season. While still not (for me) up with the all time great serieslike The Wire or Mad Men or Breaking Bad, at it's best, it's an amazingly potent mix of heartrending drama, dark, off-beathumor and some effective horror as well. But this is horror with all the rules reversed, with the `monsters' being the humanrace, and the heroes -- our vampire, werewolf and ghost who simply want to live like other people. At times, in an odd way it reminded me of "Dexter", the outsider with scary possibilities, who wants to fit in. But whereas Dexteris all about emotions repressed, here the emotions are on the sleeve (occasionally a bit too much, and there are a few soapymoments).Much like the first season this starts strong, seems to lose its way a bit in the middle, with some forced humor, and repetitivemoments but finishes with such a kick that its easy to forgive any lapses. The acting is on a very high level, the writing is wittyand human, and the direction and camerawork can be very effective at creating mood and scares on a TV budget. Not perfectperhaps, but it's a rare TV show that can make me think, laugh, cry, and send a shiver down my spine all in one episode. Somegreat and inventive use of rock tunes to set the mood tops it off.

Love this show!
I don't usually watch anything with vampires or werewolfs in because I'm a bit of a wuss but I decided to try watching this as I like both the male actors in it. I was hooked by season one and I'm now enjoying season two, albeit having to watch a great deal of it with my eyes half covered! It's different to anything I've ever watched before and I love the mix of humour and sensitivity it gives to the plight of the main characters. I highly recommend whatching it.

You have to be human to review Being Human!!!!!
Forget the negative rubbish in previous reviews, this series will go on to become BBC 3's finest product and become even more successful than Gavin & Stacey! Some reviewers compare Being Human to absolute garbage such as Blood Ties, True Blood and Vampire Diaries! This series is a million light years ahead of that lot!. The difference is in the writing. Being Human writing is intelligent. The main characters are now fully developed. The new characters in each episode bring out more from the main characters.Herricks death at the end of Series 1 allowed the introduction of Ivan and Daisey in Series 2, a masterstroke. The added furtherence and introduction of (Reverend) Kemp and Professor Jaggart provided intriging conflictions between religion and science. The acting, production and direction in Series 2 surpassed the first series. And the twist at the end of Series 2 opens up limitless possibilities for Series 3.Buy and enjoy! And get your teeth into this fantastic series!

Being Human Series 2
Series 1 of this show, is a fantastic piece of television. People who know me, know how incredibly fussy I am when it comes to watching anything 'new' and 'different'. I am glad to say I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the first episode of Series 1, and after that, I was hooked.Just a shame it wasn't broadcast on BBC4. I believe it has the maturity, and wit, to be considered a more, thought provoking show, rather than something aimed for the 2 Pints crowd. Naturally of course, I believe many people have not bothered to watch because of this fact, and therefore are missing out on some decent quality television.Back to Series 2. Not quite as compelling as the first series though mind, but does answer a lot of questions. A lot of focus on Mitchell, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as he one of the better vampires to grace our screens of late, but I prefer the more minor storylines centered on George and Annie, rather than Mitchell himself. Saying that, the series has paved the way for what is shaping up to be, a rather tense, and more sinister feeling, Series 3. Which is all good in my eyes!Fantastic 3 disc set this time round, with lot's of extras to keep me happy. This is definitely a must for all those that love the show, and it's very easy to watch again.

Not great
Couldn't stand to watch it - I don't like the whole style of it - too mod-youthy and without any real quality.

Love, love, love this show!
I love pretty much everything about this show. The actors are amazing, and the characters keep developing as the series goes on. I keep trying to decide who's my favorite, but it changes so often, because I'll remember something one in particular did or said that makes me love them more and more. It's witty, heartbreaking, hopeful. It's full of love and loss, and people trying to be better to gain redemption. It's also full of monsters, but in the end, the audience identifies with them because of how human they try to be. And that's the kicker - it's not that they're not human, but it's the effort, and pain, and moments of happiness. It's the same journey so many of us take, even without fangs or fur, or ghostliness.Highly recommended, so long as you're okay with a bit of gore.
