Fennel seeds in the mix is a very questionnable choice.
Huge fan of Balchedre flours and use them extensively to bake sourdough on the weekly basis. Wanted to try this as an alternative to Bacheldre Watermill Rustic Country Bread Flour mix, which is a huge hit with family and friends. The flour itself is of course great and there are no issues there. The problem is the super intense flavor added by fennel seeds in the mix. It absolutely kills all other flavors (including that nice freshly baked sourdough smell) and alters tthe taste rather unpleasantly. It's like being near one of those handmade soap shops - smell knocks you off your feet two streets away.Still have about 4 kilos of the flour left, not sure what to do with it now as the bread's been untouched for few days by he family - and usually Sunday batch doesn't live past Wednesday.Bacheldre Watermill Rustic Country Bread Flour mix is way better choice is you are after the seeded mix.

Don't skimp on the fennel
Fennel? Bring it on! The fennel flavour and aroma is what attracted me to this bread. In fact, the flour from Amazon only gets four stars because it seemed to have a less intense flavour than the packet I got from a bricks and mortar retailer. I don't understand the negative reviews - who can't like fennel? Admittedly it would be a waste to use for toast smothered in marmalade because the bread from this flour is for enjoying in its own right rather than having the flavour masked by some topping.

My husband certainly won't like the taste with his cooked breakfast in the morning
Bought this bread flour thinking it was the same as the bread mix and that I only had to add it to my bread machine with oil and water. I've now realised that while it is suitable for a bread machine I have to add other ingredients to it and haven't got a clue what to add and how much!!!! There are no ingredients or instructions on the side of the packet and reading other reviews I'm not looking forward to the taste of fennel with my jam or marmalade!!!! My husband certainly won't like the taste with his cooked breakfast in the morning :( Can anyone tell me what I need to add to the flour please?????

Please note - this contains fennel seed!
Well, that will teach me to read things more carefully!I bought this flour and made a couple of loaves, tried the results for the first time at breakfast the next day. Toast and marmalade with a strong aniseed flavour was a bit of a surprise! This flour made a good loaf that would be lovely with cheese or soup or for savoury sandwiches, but the inclusion of fennel seed limits its uses somewhat, hence only 4 stars.

Excellent flour
Bought this flour directly from the mill, as the amazon courier decided to deliver tommy neighbours across the busy road without checking if I am at home.i could not collect from her as I have a hernia and can not lift. Parcel contained a total weight of 30 kg . to heavy for me and too many trips across that road. Amazon had to collect and refund money.Did buy the flour from the mill directly. Excellent service and what a find. Crumpets never tasted soo good. I will never buy shop bought crumpets again. There are easy to make ., but it helps having the right flour.

Overpowering fennel smell and taste.
I have to agree with the people who find the fennel overpowering. I wish I had read the reviews before ordering and I wish I didn't have four more bags of it sitting waiting to be used. I think I'll have to give it away. Two stars because it's organic and Bacheldre and all their flours are good, just this one is not too my taste.

Organic Flour
This is good mix of organic flour and seeds but I have found that the fennel seeds are a little too strong for my taste and give too much of an aniseed flavour to the finished bread.

Good quality flour
Good quality flour. The fenegreek seeds give a slight aniseed taste to the dough so not good for sweet fillings
