Review: Full ahead, Mr Sulu. - Just to be clear I am reviewing the Complete Series on Blu-ray. I wasn't sure about buying this, but after buying the movie box set my nostalgia took over and I gave in. My initial reticence was down to the fact that I've lost count how many times I've seen every episode and I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay to watch them again as they are always on TV somewhere. And boy, am I glad I did. The remastering has to be amongst the best I've seen, especially for a show made in the 60's. The picture is crystal clear and the new effects add that little bit extra, there is an option to watch the episodes as they were originally shot, without the special effects enhancements, but I'm going to watch the newer versions first. The newer effects have been done as sympathetically as possible but they do still stand out a bit at first. After a few episodes you adjust and can just sit back and enjoy. Sadly, the sound quality doesn't match up to the picture quality. As has already been pointed out the voice track seems quite far down in the mix, meaning you have to crank up the volume very high. This also means that the sound level sometimes jumps when you go from dialogue to action. Even listening through a sound bar with the Clear Voice setting doesn't improve it much. Unlike earlier versions this box set comes in a proper Blu-ray case so no issues with discs being scratched or coming loose. The episodes are also now in the original American broadcast order. All in all it's a set worth owning if you are a fan looking to upgrade, or add to, your collection. I'm not going to knock any stars off for the quibble about the sound as this box set is amazing value for the price.
Review: Lovely series in beautiful boxset - Star Trek TOS is my favourite series from Star Trek Universe. I've been growing up with Next Generation so I hardly knew TOS apart from single episodes. Yes, maybe it's bit dated, cheesy, acting is mediocre. There is no continuity or character/story development whatsoever, each episode is like separate film which you can watch in any order, but what you expect from low budget show from 60's! Despite many flaws I just LOVE IT! Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley created outstanding characters. Kirk, Spock and Bones have that chemistry you cannot find in any of subsequent series. TOS is very simple, straightforward and most action/adventure orientated but provides hours of great fun. Many people complains about "Full Journey" boxsets. I just love them. Bought all Star Trek series as "Full Journey" and got rid of my old slimline editions. Space saving, lovely designed, all boxes looks just beautiful. Sturdy box dominated by black and blue colours with Enterprise at the front and Star Trek logo. Each series packaged in cardboard sleeves containing 2x8 & 1x7 DVDs in slots. People say that it's easy to scratch and cheap. My DVDs are working well, there's no significant scratches, just handle them carefully and everything should be alright. I had no problems at all. Prefer "Full Journey" than old boxsets. Now my Star Trek collection looks decent and tidy. Feel very happy for saving lots of space on my shelf. Best looking edition!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Visuals hold up very well on the Blu Ray
*by V***S on 11 January 2016*

Very crisp visuals, packaging compact but could hold discs more securely. I have played series 1 and half of series 2 have not had any discs fail. You can watch either the original special effects or the digitally enhanced ones. Personally I use the original effects for nostalgia's sake but I am sure if the technology existed they would have used the modern effects, though it is not a massive difference. Some of the shows have a few bits of commentary best of these for me was Amok Time also there are a lot of extras connected with Trouble with Tribbles. Personally I would have liked more audio commentaries under some of the shows, but there are excellent podcasts with a show by show discussion of each episode available. I think it is great value if you like Star Trek. Of the 3 Series it seems to me that Series 1 Reaches for the more message laden shows while Series 2 has more comic content, apparently due to Gene Coon's influence. If I was just going to get a single set it would be series 1 as that set has more extras and Torres of the shows development.
