This is a gorgeous publication, an ideal gift for any illustration and fantasy lover (and children as well). Full of inspiring drawings, fold out pages and interesting storytelling. Just beautiful!

ARTHUR SPIDERWICK'S FIELD GUIDE TO THE FANTASTICAL WORLD AROUND YOU is a beautifully crafted book. There are plenty of gorgeous illustrations throughout the book, as well as detailed descriptions of the creatures featured within the pages. There are 6 different sections altogether; "Around the House and Yard", "In Fields and Forests", "In Lakes, Streams and the Sea", "In the Hills and Mountains", "In the Sky" and finally "Outside at Night". At the very end of the book there is also a fairly extensive list for further reading.Anyone who has read and enjoyed the Spiderwick Chronicles should love this book. I am sure it would fire up the imaginations of younger readers, perhaps even getting them interested in the outside world, as they try to hunt for the creatures this book contains. For those of us who are slightly older, THE FIELD GUIDE is a happy distraction to the normality of everyday life. I love dipping into this book, it has certainly gained a permanent place on my bookshelf.

Got for a young family relative for Christmas and he was absolutely delighted with this. All his siblings were begging to have a look. Hours of entertainment especially for kids interested in myths legends and art

This field guide to accompany the Spiderwick stories is an amazingly beautifully written and illustrated guide to invisible magical creatures like Brownies, Boggarts, Piskies, Gargoyles, Banshees, Changelings, Pixies, Salamanders, Phookas, Dragons, Giants, Goblins, Merfolk, Sea Serpents etc and some wonderful rare creatures like the 'Stray Sod' who will make you chuckle.It's an A4 sized book in the style of a really old journal with browned pages and picture plates. Some of the inner pages open upwards and some double fold outwards. The content can't be faulted, really it is truly magical. Letters and old newspaper stories interweave the descriptions giving it a real journal feel.The only slight gripe I have is is the modern presentation. The dust jacket is thin paper and easily damaged. It is also really flat apart from a slightly raised round part of the seal which may disappoint a child who has seen the book in the film version. The cover is different underneath and in the same style as another Spiderwick book the 'Notebook of Fantastical Observations'cover. It is a shame when a book looks better without it's dustjacket. An older style cover with a removable warning card and some ribbon would have done wonders to the outer presentation. The inner pages which open out are also slightly badly designed. I found it impossible to open the 'old wyrm dragon' page upwards without sligthly ripping it as it was such a close fit to the spine. I think younger children might have a problem opening and folding the pages without leaving them crumpled and ripped.100/100 for content but it is let down slightly by the presentation. It could have been even more wonderful.

I was sceptical at first because (even though I love Spiderwick) it didn't show how long the book was. This was my first ever product bought online and I was scared but I ordered it. Then Amazon emailed me what they were doing (as in transit and transport,etc) which was extremely helpful. It actually came sooner than I expected, about four days to be precise. The book is now in my possession an in perfect condition. It's an amazing book. You don't even have to love Spiderwick to like this book, just as long as you like magical creatures. It's got excellent diagrams and folding out bits. It is really amazing and as long as you like mythical creatures and/or Spiderwick then you'll love this book. I would definitely order from Amazon again (well I already have).

I bought this book for my 8 year old son who loves anything monster related, mythycal, or alien type things... Its just wonderful, the artwork is so detailed and clear it just holds your attention and the captions detailing the beasts were lovely to read together.I had trouble putting it down! So much more involved than the film, which we loved , this is a massive extention of the creatures you see on screen. I would recommend it completely. When all you usually see out there is the usual Ben 10 type mass produced rubbish this book is a breath of fresh air. Buy it, you wont regret it!

ordered this book for my ten year old grandson who loved the spiderwick film, it is perfect for that age group not too silly and lf they have seen the film wont be confused by some of the charactors actions, lovely illistrations, and gives a good encouragement to get outdoors and explore things not dissapointed would recomend.
