Review: Understanding Deck is similar to new, aspiring doctor - This Deck is not for a beginner in Tarot. There are no numerals or wording on the cards. I have read that some of the first Tarot decks in existence followed this idea. However, those who have knowledge of Tarot cards, can easily identify the cards of the Major Arcana. In fact, there are 2 extra cards in the Deck which clearly show which cards in this Deck relate to the Major Arcana cards of other decks. The Court Cards can also be easily recognized, although they basically look alike, except for suit color and symbol. To me, the pip cards were the problem. What you see in the pip cards are the suit's symbols 1-10 of them, various patterns of the 4 elements and symbols of the suits, and various colorations. I don't agree with those who state that the pip cards are unimaginative, I think they are very imaginative and well thought out. The only problem was, that, for quite awhile, I had no idea as to how to interpret these cards, without memorizing the meanings given by Wang. There is no LWB with the deck, and the 3 books relating to this deck, gave me almost no help in my quest to understand the illustrations of the pip cards. I even contacted Tarot websites for help, but I received no response. I did not give up! I re-read some books on Kabbalah and read a book on Modern Astrology. So, I tried to understand the pip cards again. Using the text of Wang's books on this Deck, the astrological designations given to the cards by Wang, the Kabbalistic ideas regarding the Tree of Life Sephirot, and also by looking at the number and position of the suit symbols on each card, and the patterns and colors of the 4 elements on each card, I was finally able to understand the pip cards. After all that, I came to the conclusion that this is an amazing Deck. Wang believes that the Tarot should be used primarily for meditation, and that time should be spent on studying the cards. He was partially successful with me. I really didn't do much meditating on the cards, but I spent quite alot of time studying this Deck. In fact, I am still drawn to this Deck to analyze it some more. Now to why I say that this Deck is similar to a new, aspiring doctor. I always tell new, young and aspiring doctors and medical students, that in order to be successful, they have to have alot of patients. Similarly, in order to be successful in understanding the Jungian Tarot, you have to have alot of patience.
Review: A deck for Qabalists - Or students of Qabalah - For those who are looking for a practical deck for readings and divination who do not have knowledge or are not inclined to learning qabalistic symbolism , this deck may not satisfy. The minor cards are basic , but are coloured in the scales of the four worlds on the Tree of life. Also some basic knowledge of qabalistic symbolism would be helpful, for example The Fool , which is normally numbered 0 has an illustration of an egg the cosmic egg which takes the 0 shape and is entwined by a serpent. It also has a mandala at the bottom which illustrates the first swirlings rashith ha gilgalim the primum mobile or first movement in Qabalah, it also has a crown , symbol of Kether illustrated. There is much qabalistic symbolism in this deck , and if you are familiar with some of it you may find that it is useful for readings and divination. I have found that using Minor cards that are not heavily illustrated can be an aid to my intuition . I would recommend this deck for students or those with an interest in Qabalistic symbolism and pathworking on the Tree of life.
