Newspaper at the bottom, then megazorb, then hay for snuggling in?** A: hi, Our cage wasn't as big as it is now,so we just covered the floor with about half an inch of megazorb (thicker in regular toilet areas.) then hay for beds and in a hay rack. we stopped using newspaper as we found it became smelly when wet .However, we use wood shavings now and scatter hay in handfuls around the cage as we think this looks and smells better. megazorb is exellent stuff and easy on the feet,and good value, but comes in large bags which last ages, but are difficult to store if you are short of space, as we are. Some people use paper then towel then fleeces, which looks ok, but i didn't like all the washing this makes ! we don't put hay in the bed area anymore as they each have a plushy bed and a wooden house to sleep in,so the hay lasts longer too as it's just for feeding not for bedding. hope this helps, sorry for any delay in replying, i don't check e-mails very often. **Q: Which is the best substrate if you have a hamster allergic to some substrate..either aubiose,megasorb,fitch,carefresh or siccofloor hemp(on zooplus)** A: Hi, I used megazorb for our gerbil as it was finer than care fresh for him to dig around in & he was fine. I've seen in Pets at home they are now using care fresh a lot for their small rodents. like the previous person has said the megazorb can be a little dusty one times but I use a bit of both for my guinea pigs & they are fine. I would imagine this size bag of megazorb would last you for ever with a hamster as it last's me ages & my guineas are in a very large cage so excellent value for money.
