Well worth it!
I had to have this, so the kids got it for Christmas & made me very happy!4 cds, 1 dvd, a fantastic booklet, more like a fanatics 1977 scrap book! 5 B&W photos in a very good box. The dvd has the videos of IN THE CITY & ART SCHOOL. Also the Top of the Pops performances of IN THE CITY, ALL AROUND THE WORLD & THE MODERN WORLD. Also live performances from So it Goes, plus ALL AROUND THE WORLD again from the show 'Marc' (the Marc bolan show). The cds feature the albums(Disc_1) In the City(which has the single All around the world /Carnaby Street) has an alternative picture sleeve for the album, as does (Disc_3) This is the Modern world , which doesn't include the 'B' side to the modern world Single. That's on the Fire & Skill Live box at the 100 club gig. (Disc_2) is the demos, 6 of the 11 are previously Unreleased. (Disc_4) the opening 8 tracks are The John Peel Sessions, (which are available on Live At The BBC) & Live At The Nashville, which is previously Unreleased. Admittedly, I'm going to be biased regarding The Jam, and while I've already got most of the stuff on here, it's worth it just to get the previously Unreleased stuff. I would of coughed up the money myself, but it's even better getting it as a gift! Excellent!

Not complete.
Nice box. Great booklet and the cardboard sleeves are really nice. They use diferent pictures from the same photo shoot for the two studio albums. Also nice to have all the Electric Circus videos together but they should have put them in the order they were played (jackets on at the start, jackets off later) also the talking between tracks is missing. The postcards are a bit pointless and why include 2 the same (same pic as the box cover) The mixes of the studio albums sound less warm. Also the Peel Tapes have had echo or reverb added. Not sure why they bothered. The Peel tapes have been available for years in multiple releases. Why include them but no second album demos? My biggest disapointment is the Nashville live set. Why cut the opening track? All their sets in that period started with 'Ive changed my address' then Carnaby Street. No intro from John Weller either. I suspect that other tracks have been cut too which is disapointing becauase there is plenty of room on the CD. So the packing is near perfect but the audio content could have been better. I assume the missing tracks will appear in another box set next year.

Time For Truth
I Grew up with the jam and the flurry of box sets and deluxe editions of recent years are probably marketed towards my age group and also younger fans who found the jam later,I bought the fire and skill box set and that was a top notch job that replaced a lot of my old cassette bootlegs. The Jam 1977 is the same faultless quality, a fantastic lengthy booklet covering all there gig schedule, lots of photos and every music news clipping and reviews (a lot I’ve never seen) in the city and this is the modern world both in mini slip cases with alternate photos,John peel sessions, polydor demos (some unreleased) and a gig at the Nashville (unreleased) and a dvd of all (all footage except in the city from the 100club which came from a documentary called ‘punk in london’) 1977 filmed footage including all totp performances Marc bolan tv show and All filmed footage from ‘the electric circus’ that was shown on tv programme ‘so it goes’If your a fan or even as many reading this who will probably own the original albums on all formats, this box set is a well worthy addition for a good price, I think this is also a limited run

Nice package
The Jam's Modern World album was the first I bought with my own money (Woolworths, £3.56) so I've always had a soft spot for this band's early output. This CD/DVD set has been carefully put together: nice box (the inside lined with photos), CDs with inner sleeves and a great book (not a booklet). I agree the cards are a bit of an irrelevance. The live set on disc 4 has obviously been mucked around with order-wise which is a pain, as is Weller's out of tune guitar on the last track, which cramps his style. What struck me is just how many sub-2 minute tracks there are here - the early Jam took no prisoners in that regard. On that point it is worth noting that the music, spread across 4 CDs, could easily fit onto two (154 mins to be exact). I thought the days of issuing sub-30 minute CDs (i.e. the Polydor Demos) were long gone!

This is the Modern World
The remastered This is the Modern World is revelatory. Bruce’s bass sounds immense.Comparing this to All Mod Cons is interesting. It comes out OK. Fair enough All Mod Cons has Tube Station and A Bomb but Modern World has Life from a Window, The Combine and Tonight at Noon all which would not sound out of place on All Mod Cons..Book is fantastic! Great memorabilia and unseen original album art.Live disc allows full immersion in what was a great year for The Jam.

Top quality
Brilliant quality , really top job. All we need now is the ‘modern world’ demos ...Or a super deluxe edition of sound affects. The John peel seasons on this compilation are on my copy of ‘at the bbc’ I think. But it’s a great addition for any jam fan. Well done 👍

Great package
Everything you need about the Jam in 1977 - apart from the first two LPs there are demos, live tracks, videos, photos and a 144-page book with what must be every cutting from the UK musical press to feature the Jam that year. The debut album always was great and This Is The Modern World was unjustly criticised at the time, it sounds pretty good nowadays.

DR8
Aesthetically, this is beautiful. The box is sturdy, it comes with 150 page (or so) paperback book covering the period. The CD's come in legitimate Mini LP covers, with inner bags - not the cheap card things we sometimes get.So far, so good. Things go downhill fast when you put the music on. It's brickwalled. In the City went from a DR12 on previous releases, to DR 8. In other words, it's garbage. So disappointed. This could have been essential, as it is, it's merely OK.
