Hand Lettering: Creative Alphabets for Any Occasion

It is a gift for my adult daughter who loves making hand made cards for her friends and wanted some new ideas. It is a visually stunning book and full of experience and wisdom of the author/ artist…but also a very accessible, inspirational and arty book, packed with fun and lovely lettering.

I have bought many books over the years on sign writing and artistic lettering, this one is a very good quality production and has many wery good pictures and examples, it is a very nice addition to my collection and a good source of inspiration for future projects.

I have only had this book for a couple of days but already love it. It has a couple of short sections at the beginning a gallery of hand lettered art and an overview of how to create your art work including letter width and weight and layout. But the main appeal of this book for me is the 50 different alphabets and the guides on how to draw them and which pen is best suited to each style and suggestions of where they could be used. The alphabets vary greatly from brush script, to Art Deco style, to 80s filled letter shapes. And pages for practicing.It's more of a reference book than a teach yourself lettering book and the variety of styles is a great mix.

There is plenty of info about lettering that you've probably seen in other books unless this is your first one. But that info is presented well here: easy to understand, attractively presented. The reason I bought this book, though is the directory of alphabets: lost and lots of lettering styles to copy or to riff off of.

Adorei o livro ele vai direito ao assunto, com letras de exemplos se voce esta começando com handlettering esse é livro

de pages "vides" -en fait d'exercices à l'entraînement de traçages de lettres- (on peut le faire nous-même sur des feuilles vierges) ; cette méthode de "remplissage" est commune à tous les livres sur le sujet dont les auteurs ne savent plus trop quoi ajouter… et également trop de présentations de polices de caractères ; dont certaines franchement décevantes… On peut trouver des milliers de polices sur le web. Inutile de consacrer la moitié d'un livre à ce genre d'exercice ! Quelques bons conseils et réalisations dans les premières pages, mais on reste vraiment sur sa faim si on envisage de se diriger vers du lettering professionnel.

this book totally meets my expectation. this book gave a lot of ideas to me to take my calligraphy to the next level. truly recommended to all calligrapher. plz launch its next edition I will be truly waiting for it.😊

Dommage c'est en anglais car les vocabulaire est très spécifique aux fonts de caractères que l'on croise en permanence sur les ordinateurs. Cet ouvrage peut susciter l'envie de créer ses propres fonts (police de caractères). Et créer une police peut s'apparenter à de la méditation (mais oui).
