As part of the Uriah Heep-Reissue series, Sanctuary Records released the deluxe edition of the rock classic “Demons And Wizards” from 1972. The fourth album by the British rock legend is available here in the 2CD version by Andy Pearce (Black Sabbath, Lou Reed) with 14 previously unreleased alternative mixes. The album was one of the most successful in the band's history and has put the band into rock Olympus with songs like “Easy Livin” and “The Wizard”. Review: Great album - I followed this band in their early days and I believe this is their best album of that time. Review: Production Production Production - Uriah Heep, is a group that I have heard of countless times but never really bothered with. I have found this album to be completely refreshing, Coming from 1972 (the year I was born) I was expecting typical 70s production, maybe hard-to-hear vocals, poor mixes but all done with a typical 70s feel. I was wrong. The album was produced so well, that it simply rises above many of the groups of the time for this reason alone. Songs are rarely three-chord wonders, backing vocals excellent. vocals themselves are superb, the keyboards distinctly well done, and in all a fantastic album. No theme as such but each song captures a mood. Will be on my rotation for a long time to come. My only angst is with the bonus tracks. The whole idea of bonus tracks came about with the advent of CD, back in the days of Vinyl this was rarer because of the cost of producing the extra LP for the bonuses and I have to admit that some of these bonus tracks sound like tracks that didn't make the final cut.

Heep, not Purple
I find that the trouble with many CD reviews are that they are written by fans which doesn't help much because they tend to like everything. I'm not a Uriah Heep fan, I can remember asking a school friend back who introduced me to so much good music what he thought of Heep. His reply was "they're OK", I sort of didn't bother after that to get into them. Time had moved on, I'm going to a festival in November that Heep are headlining so I want to familiarise myself with their music, everyone raves about this album so I have started here, so this is a non fan perspective review, if you've never listened to them I hope this is helpful. Purple and Sabbath they are not, you can understand why they didn't quite get as big as those two monsters of British rock, it's hard to pin a reason down other than I find the lyrics a bit lacking. There is no doubting the musicianship and many of the songs are very keyboard lead, though special mention must be given to bass player Gary Thain who left not long after this album, he knows how to carry a fine along. The songs are OK, not startling but listenable, Easy Livin' was a hit in Europe, it has a definite groove and is a solid tune, lyrically a bit lacking but a good foot tapper, as with Traveller In Time which are probably the best two tracks on the album, however I would recommend this album for the bonus material which carries a song called Why, it is stunning and worth buying for this alone, the bass playing has to be heard to be believed, unlike some of the other tracks out feels like a complete song. Overall, not a bad album, as an outsider looking in I don't find it the mega classic some claim it to be, but when it is on my player let's just say I'm happy with it and enjoy listening to it, if you like 70's rock, give this a go.

Uriah Heep - "Demons And Wizards" (2 CD)
This is the fourth album of the band and was released in 1972. Note in this album a greater maturation of the band with very well elaborated and harmonious songs in the compositions without losing the slope of the rock. David Byron's vocals are quite variant and refined on this album. The instruments are also very clear. Highlights include "The Wizard", "Paradise", "The Spell" as the most melodious and "Firmer Rock" are "Poet's Justice" and "Circle Of Hands". The other tracks are good too. The album is pretty consistent. In addition, disc 2 is added which is both interesting and interesting to be appreciated. These are alternate versions of tracks not previously recorded. Great! Note 9.0.

How can it be?
How can it be 45 years since this album was released. How can it be that it was over 30 years since I last listened to it. How can it be that I could sing along to it without the assistance of the lyric sheet after 30 years. How can it be that the guitar breaks at the end of Circle of Hands and The Spell still move me to tears. How can it be that it's over 40 years since I saw Heep at the old Liverpool boxing stadium for the 6th and final time. How can it be that I haven,t been in touch with my 2 Heep brothers in arms for 30+ years. How can it be that I,m now 60. Well I guess it be. I bought this on vinyl from Amazon last week just to see if I still loved it or whether it made me laugh. No prizes for guessing the answer. I loved Heep from the moment I saw them on the Whistle Test performing Look at Yourself and nicked a couple of quid out of my dad's wallet to buy the album the next day. Luckily a couple of mates saw them too and the three Heepsters were born. I think Sweet Freedom ended the fanaticism or was it Wonderworld, anyhoo girlfriends turn into wives, life gets in the way and our mini fan club dissolved. It is great to hold that vinyl album cover again and see the pics inside the gatefold, brings back such great memories. I,ve always stayed a rock fan, saw Sabbath in Leeds this year on their farewell tour but nothing will beat the memories of being in the front row at a Heep gig in the Liverpool Stadium with David hitting impossible notes, Ken freaking out on Keyboard and Mick on his knees soloing. Next order will be Look at Yourself on vinyl, now where is the wife's purse? I miss my two old Heepster buddies. How can it be so long ago? How can it be?

Great Stuff Great Band
I never really got into Uriah Heep during the 70's. I was more of a purple fan and probably regarded Heep as a kid brother version especially with snobby music journalist reviews. But I saw this at a fiver remastered and bonus tracks it was a no brainer. So glad I did what a fabulous album and great package well put together. Oh and the music is pretty good too.I can see where Queen got some of there ideas and multiple harmonies from. It's a very good album with a diverse style of music within the heavy rock medium. I must agree with previous reviewer's one of the bonus tracks "Why" is absolutely brilliant the playing on this is stunning it's almost like listening to "Santana" it's amazing especially the bass player Gary Thain ? or whoever it's almost my favourite track on this excellent version of this great album.

¡Simplemente espectacular! ⚡🔥🎶

Ein must-have von Uriah Heep! 1972 konnte ich mir die Platte als Wehrpflichtiger nicht leisten, dafür aber jetzt das re-release. Und ich bin immer noch begeistert.
