Spear & Jackson 4056BS Razorsharp 6 in 1 Blade Sharpener

Nifty tool. Works really well. I’m glad it has little images of the different blades it sharpens with each part or it would be confusing what all the 6 functions were for. That really is helpful. My garden tools haven’t been as sharp since they were new, despite trying to keep them sharpened with a whetstone, this is so much easier so I use it more often. It’s certainly a small enough item to carry round, it fits in a pocket and it more much lighter and easier to use than a whetstone. I first saw this sharpener at use when a friends scythed some long grass for me. Scythes notoriously need sharpening really often during a job. Seeing how sharp the blade was after using the 6 in 1 sharpener had me convinced. The handle has a guard on it which I liked as a safety factor, having just sharpened a blade extremely well, if it slipped at least you wouldn’t cut yourself. It was easy to hold, though occasionally I was trying to work out which away round I needed to hold it for different tools. Looks like it is robust, and Spear and Jackson have a good reputation. Overall, it’s saved some tools that might have otherwise been left aside. Can’t wait to try it on some more of the garden tools.

Product seems to do its job. Make sure you read the accompanying instructions as failure to use the right blades could be counterproductive. There was no oil in my blade sharpener, and the sponge was bone dry. When I filled it myself with WD40 oil came out of the bottom of the appliance. Care needs to be taken otherwise it could damage clothes or furnishings.

Now I don't know the correct way to sharpen shears or anything else so from a wide choice I decided to take a plunge on this one. I was very surprised how good the sharpening tool was and very easy to use. Good handle to grip and comfortable to hold. I sharpened garden shears, and Secateurs and was very happy with my results given my limited knowledge of this skill.

I love these. I have one at home, one in my tools and one in my fishing box. I don’t use anything else for knives shears, loppers , scissors you name it. One you get them sharp a couple of strokes keeps the edge On really dull stuff I grind or file first and finish with this. It will do it just takes a bit longer

Takes a lot of work to get the shears sharp again

Brought this to sharpen my secateurs & scissors, and it does the job very well. Its easy and safe to to use, also has a useful little bottle of oil and a sponge in the handle.

A good pocket portable sharpener for both in the house and outside tools.

I have a lot of pruning shears and loppers I use in my garden. Last summer I had noticed that a few pairs were getting a little blunt, and making the job slower and harder. I already have a sharpening tool that I use for my kitchen knives, but I didn’t like the idea of using it to sharpen my garden tools with. So I set about trying to find a smaller more hand held sharpening tool for them and I found this. Spear and Jackson make good quality products, and at less than £4, this tool was just what I was looking for. It is lightweight, easy to hold and feels comfortable in the hand. I have to admit it took me a moment, and a little playing around to figure out the best way to use this, and the right angle to sharpen each tool. Once I figured it out it was plain sailing. With a few swipes back and to, along each cutting edge of the pruners and loppers, the blades were finally sharp again. What a difference it made! I would highly recommend this product to anyone struggling with blunt garden cutting tools. A small inexpensive tool, that is a must for every gardener out there!
