Review: Plant died but after two years... - Venus flytraps are a challenge to care for! I bought from this seller in 2018 and to be honest I can't remember the state the plant arrived in but there wasn't soil everywhere. It had moss in which the plant seemed to enjoy (unsurprisingly as these plants are normally grown in swamps). It was a very happy and healthy plant pet for a long time but I think it wasn't able to catch enough flies/spiders because two years later, during winter, it went dormant and just didn't grow back unfortunately. I did notice it was struggling to catch spiders leading up to this time and so was feeding it dead worms (it was all I could manage handling) or more (squished) spiders when they wandered into my house, but I think the plant will do better when it's in a house where it can regularly catch flies/live food (I. E. Not a second floor flat because I have to do something to regularly attract flies to the flat and why would I do that? Lol). I did specifically only water the plant with deionized water (the kind you put in cars) which helps the logivity of the plant because other kinds of water has minerals in it that can build up and kill the plant. Experience of caring for the plant aside, I very much recommend this seller just on the basis that the plant survived two years outside of any of its normal environment, meaning it must have come from a very good nursery. I will be buying more as my mum wants one as well now and she has a garden (as well as a car so it's less weird for her to buy that water at a gas station lol), but my advice is do your how to care research before getting this plant, especially from desertcart as you don't know what environment it grew up in. The holographic card it comes from is the truth, this is both a pet and a plant, treat it accordingly lol.
Review: Broken and tiny :( - Very disappointed - arrived and it was tiny, most of the soil had fallen out the pot along with the plant, and the plant was all broken and squashed and covered in soil - not what I expected for nearly £13. They need to package these better so they don;t rattle around a big box and get so damaged.

### ⭐ Broken and tiny :(

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lots of Traps on the plant, very pleased, despite the delivery vans poor handling.
*by M***N on 13 November 2014*

I purchased the plant for my daughter. It arrived well packaged, with signs saying living material and this way up, yet it was delivered sideways up, so when opening the box (in it's correct orientation), I found some of the soil had fallen out of the pot and virtually all of the traps were closed due to the ingress of soil We carefully cleaned the soil out and within a day or so all of the traps had recovered and were open. You mustn't over stress these plants by feeding them too many flies or touching the traps because the traps are operated mechanically via sensitive hairs on the surface of the leaves/ trap. If you keep touching them, it can kill the leaves that make up the trap, and stress the whole plant. Keep it well watered, but don't pour water directly over the leaves/traps as this will also close them. Pour water into a bowl and allow the plant to stand in the bowl. At least half an inch worth is a good measure and ensures a humid environment around the plant and keeps the soil well watered. If you need to add more, soil peaty soil is the best. Don't put the plant in direct sunlight. The ideal position is a N to NNE i.e. North to North North Easterly) direction on a window sill so that it only gets the early morning sun. Direct sunlight can damage the leaves. These plants tend to grow in wet soils surrounded by grasses and sedges, so are usually shaded from the sun. Despite the plant arriving with some of the soil falling out, it wasn't the vendors fault, but the carrier. The plant itself had loads of leaves/traps and looked well established. We've had the plant for three weeks and it looks very healthy. I highly recommend this vendor if you want to buy Venus Fly Traps.
