The Black-Seeded Simpson is an American variety which dates back to 1880, and is a 'splendid loose-leaf lettuce...very tender, crisp, fine quality and sweet flavour'. Sow March-September; harvest May-November. Tip: lettuces are best watered early in the morning. Picked and packed by hand for Nutley's by heirloom seedsman Thomas Etty in Somerset.
