Product description Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication - CD .co.uk Following a string of unsatisfactory replacements (including former Jane's Addiction alum Dave Navarro), Californication--the band's seventh album--saw them reunited with both errant guitarist John Frusciante (hauled out of a long and debilitating heroin addiction) and producer Rick Rubin, whose mixture of commerical nous and sonic smarts helped make 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik their breakthrough set. It's a welcome reunion: Frusciante's playing, in particular--tight, yet lyrical--fits these songs like a second skin, lending them a sensual sort of ease that is perfectly in keeping with the reckless hedonism of their lyrics. The songs themselves are much the same mixture of adrenalised swagger and high-tensile funk as ever. And typically, there are two or three fillers here ("Emit Remmus", "Purple Stain") which probably should have been left on the shelf. Ultimately, though, it's their ballads ("Road Trippin'", the moody, desolate "Scar Tissue") which really demonstrate their strengths, both as songwriters and arrangers--and reveal, albeit briefly, the hearts this crew normally take such pains to conceal. --Andrew McGuire

The best Chilli Peppers album to date
For a Chilli Peppers album this is very mellow, even if your not a big Chillis fan presently its more than worth a listen.

A band approaching their peak
A good selection of songs and well produced. Not quite a truly great album as there are definite high points and the standard is not maintained throughout. SCAR TISSUE is my personal favourite. Some f the less well known tracks improve with repeated listenings such as GET ON TOP. Not my favourite album and not my favourite band, but when in the mood, it rocks!

Probably the best Chili Peppers album ever.
Love this album. Good range and variety of tracks. Back from when albums were still made as albums not just for download fodder. Really shows off the breadth they are capable of, and some tracks are in my favs lists on the ipod/spotify. Prefer this one to Blood Sugar Sex Magik in terms of the overall album and the fit of the songs.

Very good
Absolutely love hearing this in the car. Brought as a gift but I had this on vinyl and the person I brought it for was a fan but then lost all the cds of it so built up their collection.
