**Q: I am a new gardener is this the right type of spade to remove shrubs?**
A: Dependant on how big the shrub is dig a circle of soil from around the shrub and expose the roots, cut through the roots with an axe and then remove shrub. Dont chance trying to cut through thick roots with this spade, even though it is of a high quality.

A: No

A: What are the dimensions? I want to get one for my wife.

**Q: anyone know where this is made ?**
A: Spear and Jackson have been selling tools since the 1700s in Sheffield, presume this means they are made in the UK.

This is a nicely balanced spade, just the right length for me though someone very tall might find it too short. The only problem is that the wood tends to split and crack (I suppose it was not pretreated). I noticed this after having the spade for just under a year, and Amazon quickly arranged a replacement. Having looked on various websites, I would recommend treating the shaft and handle with linseed oil to prevent splitting.
