Takeout Kit, Ethiopian Spiced Lentils (Misr Wat) Meal Kit, Serves 4

I got this for my mom who lives in the middle of nowhere and cannot get this kind of food. She loved it! Said the bread was a little difficult but finally figured it out. Like the directions say you will lose the first couple you make.

Beautiful box and packaging! The kit included everything I needed, including water and vinegar. The instructions were very clear, but I was a little intimidated to make injera, a crepe-like bread pancake. I coated a 10 inch nonstick skillet with the included spray, made the injera mix, and carefully followed the directions. They were perfect! The lentils cooked about 40 minutes until they were done to my taste, using all the rich sauce provided. The smell was heavenly! They were too spicy for our family, though, and I wished I could have had the option to adjust the heat.

What you make is a NOT good enough version of a dish you can get for 3/4 the price via any take out app. the lentils (which seemed overly spiced with black pepper) are idiot proof. With some practice, hopefully your last few pieces of bread will come out better than the first few. trying to cook this dish myself (well watching HER cook it for me, uh, us) helped kill a 1/2 hr of boredom (kinda, she still talked over her shoulder about her work day), and made me want the real thing badly enough to hit 2 take out spots in the weeks after.

I had just got home from a trip and with the state being set to Stay at home, this was a real treat to have on hand. Thank you Global Take-out.
