UPDATE JAN 2017In my original review below I said I might buy one of these for myself (having got one for my dad for Xmas). Well it turns out my wife bought me one for Xmas too when she saw I'd ordered one for my dad! So, I've now had a chance to play with it in earnest - having read the supplied eBook - and I'm now pretty proficient. Worryingly I was also able to apply the same principles and managed to open my back door lock too - which goes to show why you need to have an alarm and other security in place nowadays.The eBook gives you a good understanding of the mechanisms involved but at the end of the day it comes down to practice; you really need to visualise and feel what is happening inside the lock as you pick it. In addition to the supplied practice padlock I managed to pick 4 out of 5 padlocks that I had laying around the house. I've upgraded to the review from 4 to 5 stars because it would be rude not to given what it had taught me.----------------------I purchased this for my dad for Christmas as he has always liked to tinker with things and I figured that whilst tinkering he might as well be learning something different at the same time.The kit arrives in a neat, reasonably sturdy cardboard box with SpyTech written on it. Inside is:- A clear plastic case that holds the transparent padlock and its keys- A leatherette wallet that holds the various picks and leversI was surprised to see that there were no printed instructions and not wanting to just dump it on my dad with nothing to guide him I resorted to searching for some online and printing them out.It wasn't until I came to write this review that I saw mention of an included E-Book. Doh! So, I'll ensure I print that too before Xmas...It has to be said that I had been concerned about some of the more negative reviews I'd read on here before I bought the kit, particularly the one(s) that mentioned the padlock falling to pieces, so the first thing I did is open the kit and check it. The padlock seems solid to me - there were no loose joints or plugs that I could see - and all of the internals seemed to operate properly when I inserted and turned the key. Having unlocked it I did find it a little stiff to close the clasp again but nothing too untoward. Usually with something like that I'd resort to a bit of WD40 but given that the padlock is clear (and it's a present) I didn't want to squirt WD40 into the internals and cause everything to go cloudy. I figured that the stiffness would ease by itself with use.The picks and levers also seemed solid enough. The handles on the picks are only metal but they seem well enough put together.Overall I'd say the build quality is good. It certainly doesn't give the impression of being cheap.I did have a brief go at picking the lock myself before I'd hunted down the online instructions and I failed miserably so I think a good read of the instructions and lots of practice is in order.Now my interest has been piqued I may well get one myself!I've uploaded some photos including a closeup of the boxed padlock so you can see the detail and quality.Hope you found this review to be of help. This is a fantastic set and exceptionally good value. I had played with making my own tools in the past but these are infinitely better. The training lock is great and really lets you work out what you are doing when working blind on normal locks and to understand what each tool does inside the locking mechanism. This has a vast set of tools but even with one or two I have been able to get started. The e-book is comprehensive so ensure you download it. Packaging was great and delivery was next day so instant gratification there!!

Item arrived today, the inside packaging was ripped and the bag holding the lock picks was damaged and very tatty. Personally i think this item had been returned before as it didn't look new. So im returning it too.Regarding the item the lick seemed ok but the picks felt cheap and flimsy

This was described as "WALLET FRIENDLY". Now I don't know about your pockets', but there is no way this thing is fitting in my pocket, yet alone my wallet. It is huge. Even for me, the type of person who always carries a towel, this is not an "everyday carry".That said, it is arguably more for your money, getting a nicely laid out, organising container.The tools and padlock seem of high quality; I have used much more force with them than I probably should have and they have withstood the abuse without damage.

It is fun, however the tools have a metal handle so when you are jiggling them around trying to unlock the padlock, given the way that you hold them to apply force, it can rub on the palm of your hand. This can cause some pain and even blistering if you do it for extended periods of time. I couldn't find the manual either at first, but that is my fault as I did not read the description properly - it has the link to the manual in the description. Some reviews on her said that it was quite easy to unlock the training padlock, and it is relatively - however I tried my new skills on a regular padlock and it was just as easy.

I was surprised that a complete beginner like me could do this, but having read the ebook instructions, and after trying several of the tools, I managed to pop the lock open. Just to make sure it wasn't beginner's luck, I tried again the next day with the tool that had worked, and opened it again within a few minutes. So now I am trying the different heads to see exactly what they do. I used too much force which slowed me down; re-reading the ebook I noticed that they cover that point. If you are interested in how locks work, then this is a good place to start. The tools look as though they may come in handy for other hobbies, like clocks or modelmaking, but I haven't got that far yet.

Not sure that this is going to make you an expert lock picker but it's nice cheap bit of kit to introduce you to the hobby. The kit has all the bits needed to pick a simple pin lock with a clear plastic practice lock to play with. Couple of things. Practice lock is a lot easier to pick than a 'real' high quality lock with less backlash to feel and of course wandering around the place with a picklock set in you back pocket is likely to get you in trouble if you are stopped for any reason.Anyway, for those of us with a curious mind this sort of cheap set is a bit of fun so well recommended.

Fantastic fun for the entire family. We all ended up having a go after the in-laws initial disproving reaction had calmed down.So much so that mother in law bought 3-4 as stocking fillers for her nephews hahaEnded up being one of the best Christmas games, get a bunch of padlocks a stop watch and split in to two teams.Great quality for the price paid and have always been interested in learning how it all works, for £10 I learnt a lot.Great buy highly recommended :)

Il set presenta un lucchetto trasparente ottimo per iniziare in quanto permette di vedere cosa si stia effettivamente facendo all'interno del lucchetto.Sono presenti le chiavi per aprire il lucchetto ovviamente in duplice copia.Ci sono 15differenti grimaldelli all'interno di diverse forme, e due perni per far leva, di diversa dimensione, si possono facilmente trasportare in una custodia in pelle fornita dal set come in foro allegata.Ottimo prodotto.

Esta bien, es entretenido para un rato y entender como funciona una cerradura. Pero tras abrirlo quedó abandonado en el armario y jamás lo use de nuevo, quizás lo revenda

After first two successful attempts to pick the lock open, I couldn’t pick it open no matter what, it seemed jammed inside. What’s worse, then i suddenly found out the lock had large cracks around its body, only 2-3 hours out of the box and it’s broken. ps: i didn’t smash it. Maybe i should be more gentle with it? I honestly don’t know :(

Sehr gute Verarbeitung der Werkzeuge und das Schloss ist gut für Anfänger geeignet. Ich empfehle es jedem, der sich für das Schlossöffnen interessiert.
