This Honeycomb Mask reduces exposure to fragrances, particles, cigarette smoke, smog, dust, diesel fumes, VOCs and household chemicals from 50% to 95% depending on the substance. The mask is made up of a comfortable, porous outer layer which holds a disposable carbon filter. It removes 99% of particles down to one micron. The carbon filter is effective for twenty to forty hours of use. We recommend replacing it if it becomes hard to breathe or the smell or taste of pollution comes through. This will depend on what substances are being filtered out and also how sensitive you are. The Honeycomb Mask comes with one Activated Carbon Filter. The mask contains nylon, polyester, cotton, hard plastic and latex-free elastic. The activated carbon is bound to a polyester support material with a synthetic latex which does not contain the protein of natural latex. The carbon filter insert is not washable and will need to be replaced. The pack contains one Honeycomb mask and one carbon filter. All our washable masks have adjustable latex-free ear loops and fit into your pocket or handbag. They can be washed by hand in cool water.

This was very comfortable to wear but - maybe cos it doesn't have vents of any sort - my own breath made it smell unpleasant after a couple of hours (and yes I do brush, floss etc twice day & I don't eat garlic!) . You cannot wash the carbon inner lining to get rid of the smell. I tried hanging it out in the sun for a day which helped but didn't totally get rid of the odour.

Excellent product for smoke.
Excellent. My neighbour smokes like a chimney and it of course all comes my way when I am outdoors. It causes a lot less stress from not having to smell and breathe in her disgusting second-hand smoke.

These really do work. I have chemical sensitivities and I've found them a Godsend. Re the three star critique ... I don't have the smell problem. What people should realise though is that you still smell certain smells, they're not totally cut out, it just doesn't effect you in the same way. I know, I don't understand it either so I don't bother thinking about it! There's more about carbon masks on AllergyUK.

It's a must have!
This mask literally saves my life. Second-hand smoke gives me a violent gag reaction, it literally makes me sick and I'm coughing for the next two hours. As it irritates my lungs, not my throat, no honey or ginger will help. Smoking is indeed EVERYWHERE. It is not much comfort that it's not allowed at restaurants - I can choose not to go there, but I can't choose not to use the streets, waiting for the bus or enter a tube station, without having to cross a small crowd of smokers. - It is not my intention to offend anyone. But smoking makes every day hard for me. No-one seems to care about those who are in most danger, as they don't smoke. It is provenly cancerous, yet it's everywhere, inhaled by small children, the sickly, the elderly, not to mention those who are expecting. Thanks for reading.As on this product, I'll start with the negatives:- It is very pricey- For this price, you only get one mask with one filter, they really should include at least one more filter- You can only guess how long you'll be able to use it- Smells do come through this, which makes it even harder to decide if it's still working- Even though the nasal part is excellently manufactured, I have a normal sized face and head, yet it feels smaller than it should at my chin, so for a regular or big-headed man this would be a problemOn the positive side:- This is a very nicely sewn product, it follows your nose and face very well, also very nice quality- The smells do come through but you'll notice that they no longer affect you, you really can breathe in this- It's not a heavy, thick material, it breathes through better than other masksOverall I am very, very grateful for this mask - this IS a lifesaver. I recommend it if you are badly suffering from the nauseating effects of second-hand smoke!

Expensive, partly effective
Terribly expensive. The carbon filter itself also has a distinctive smell. There aren't many alternative unfotunately.
