Best Universal Player you can buy, but not for much longer.
Been saving for this amazing multi disc player for around 18mths, was devastated to find out that Oppo were to cease production of their Hi Fi equipment, so purchased this as soon as I heard the above news. Only had the UDP 205 for a short while, but I have tested it with every type of disc this unit can play. As a hi fi player and a Video player it is awesome, sound is sweet and more anolog than digital, which is what I want from my hi fi, picture quality’s is the best I have ever seen. My advice is get one while you can, you will not be disappointed.

Oppo 205 as good as it gets.
Clearly not a turkey but a fabulous all round performer. I had a 105 before, went to a 203 which was good but I missed at audio performance of the 105. It really is the best out there and in Audio terms it clearly betters the 105. Yes, I had lip sync issues with the 203 but these were fixed with firmware updates. No such issues with the 205. Goes without saying that quality interconnects are a must - ignore the one supplied in the box..oh and a decent system to plug it all into.

Very effective ... easy multiregion.
I won't review the player because there are better reviews available than I can provide, suffice it to say that the build quality is exemplary and the audio/video quality is excellent. If you've got this far then your probably interested in the multi-region capability that adds a price increase from the stock device. The player arrives as packaged by OPPO but it's been opened, modified and skillfully repackaged by the merchant. The only giveaways are the included A4 guide to using the region selection which is inside the box and branded sealing tape on the outside of the box ... oh and a label on the box. The player looks 100% untouched, no marks or fingerprints. The player is big and heavy, imagine an A/V amp and you-re there. It's supplied with a 2M HDMI cable (18Gbps) but that didn't help me because my TV is 4M away so I had to buy my own cables. The region switching has been enabled via a hardware modification which necessitates the player casing being breached. To change the blu-ray/dvd region you press a remote control key sequence. It's very simple. You CAN do the same with the DVD region coding but there's also an automatic switcher which rather defeats the point. It works well.In conclusion, the current world's best UHD blu-ray player (with massive audio capability) in multi-region form. Recommended.UPDATE: It's a few weeks later and I am SO irritated by this player. I retract my previous 5 star review. The player is good in many ways but has one terrible flaw. The audio/video synchronisation is appalling! I've had players for years including many blu-ray players and the Panasonic UB900 UHD player and NONE have EVER given me lipsynch problems. Discs that played perfectly on those machines do NOT on this one. Dolby-Digital works fine but higher codecs such as DTS HD Master Audio etc need a delay of 175Ms added to my A/V amp and running a Dolby-Vision disc requires a 375Ms delay which is ridiculous!I've tried to get support from OPPO to resolve this (although it's almost certainly their firmware at fault) and got no reply to my first request and a brief place-holder reply when I tried again a week later. OPPO's alleged perfect customer support is a MYTH!I can't recommend this expensive turkey. AVOID!UPDATE #2As of today, 16th September 2017, new firmware was installed that appears to have corrected the audio synch issue. This is good and the player is now useful and desirable. I've now changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars because the time it took OPPO to sort this out loses them 1 star!
