2 weeks use and all is well
Have to say - I'm enjoying my 'office' coffee much more now. The Staresso makes a decent espresso and is a great coffee lovers companion for when there is no electrical alternative. One thing you need to know because the instructions do not make it clear... When making espresso, you need to build up preasure with 5 or 6 rapid pumps, you will feel a change as the water starts to be forced through the coffee, now you can pump more slowly depending upon how long you want the water exposed to the coffee grind.been using it for 2 weeksI making about 4 shots a day and so far all is good. It will be coming with me later this month to my regular BnB in Scotland so I have a decent coffee in a morning :)One slight niggle, when pouring the finished coffee from the glass at the bottom into an espresso cup you do loose some the creme which stays in the glass. Still a five star rating though because it only a niggle and it really doesn't spoil the coffee. Can't comment on the mikl frothing etc as I've not used that to date.

I sooo wanted this to be a success ...
... but unfortunately it wasn't. It is a nice idea and concept, but it has not been thought through completely. For me it is rather a prototype not the finished product. Back to the drawing board please. From the pictures, the reviews and the online videos I really liked this little espresso maker. Too bad it didn't live up to my expectations right from the moment I opened the box. Sure the design and the price are nice but when I took the device out of the box the bottom cover of the Staresso came off immediately. Whoever did the quality check at the manufacturer, did not do a good job. The plastic was even so warped, I could not push it back into place. This was partly because of the silicone seal protecting the inner glass vessel providing too much resistance. A construction error.Taking the Staresso apart was fine, I was prepared for many individual parts. The first "good" thing was, that the shaft of the pump (the part you press to pump to create the pressure) was not plastic but, as stated in the Q&A section on this page, metal covered with plastic. However, the way the silver top button is attached to the shaft seemed a bit flimsy.OK, all said and done, time for the first shot. Coffee in the filter basket, coffee tamped, water into the water reservoir, pump unit screwed into place and start pumping. Well, at least as long as you can pump. After the first few pumps I was simply unable to continue pumping. It was locked. The pressure in the chamber was simply too high and there was only little coffee coming out at the bottom. So, what now? No other chance than unscrewing the pump unit and releasing the pressure. Pump back in place, start pumping again and a bit more coffee appeared. At least until the pump locked up again. Repeat procedure as above and continue to extract the last drop of coffee. But what's that on my forehead? Oh wow, I broke into a sweat making, ahem, trying to make, an espresso. But the shot was surely worth it. Well ... it was definitely a good little coffee but an espresso? I am not an expert but would have to say no. And I couldn't say for sure if there was a crema on top or if that was just foam created by the pumping action. Sorry to say, it's a No from me.And here is another construction fault. Since the shot is being captured in the bottom unit you would have to drink in from there. Not ideal. Especially if you would want to serve it to someone else. And if you have to pour the espresso from the bottom unit into a cup you loose the "crema". If there is little or weak crema (foam?), it really isn't a true espresso experience. After the first shot, I tried a second one immediately just to see if this would be the same story every time. The difference, I did not tamp the coffee as much as the first time. And hey presto, the pump did not lock up. But apart from that, the result was the same. Then came the cleaning. Many parts mean a lot to clean. And getting the coffee out of the filter basket wasn't really easy or mess-free. All in all, after 30 minutes (making the 2 shots and cleaning) I knew that the Staresso is not for me and was going back to amazon. Later that evening I ordered the handpresso (which I can't wait to try out). And I still have my awesome Aeropress. Nothing beats the Aeropress in simplicity vs results. A good cup of coffee is always guaranteed and cleaning takes mere seconds.I like about the Staressso: - the designI don't like about the Staresso: - the build quality- the many parts to assemble / disassemble- the pump locking up if the coffee is tamped too much- the lower coffee reservoir being not the best for drinking the espresso out of it- the quality of the espresso

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the coffee produced.
I had my doubts about this system. I am an avid coffee drinker, and found myself in a situation where I would not have access to a decent coffee when I really needed one, ie. a hospital stay. When this arrived, it was beautifully presented in a strong box. I felt like I really had bought myself a very special gift. It took me a few minutes to understand how to put the bits together to make myself a cappuccino, but by the second one, I didn't need the instructions any more. Of course the milk cant be heated, but if you froth the milk just after you have made the coffee, the residual heat from that goes into the milk. I was pleasantly surprised that what I got from this was a nice tasting, good textured, if not rather small cappuccino. I am very glad I bought it and can see it being a permanent fixture in my travel bags for the future.

I love this machine
I love this machine. Easy to use (especially with all the you tube video's 😃) and great to make professional style espresso with the crema on top.Great service especially that I received the wrong model. They didn't even ask for the product return and sent over the correct model as a free gift. That's amazing service.I do recommend this to all the coffee lovers. There are many similar brands but this one is among the top ones.Thank you!!!

Broke after eight espressos.
After eight uses it broke. At first it was amazing - great coffee and perfect for my travels. I'm presently trekking and camping in the Yukon and really needed some good coffee. This was way better than the over rated aeropress, you actually get a crema from the Staresso. Sadly after eight uses the seals broke so now I'm in the Yukon with a coffee paperweight. I'm hoping when I get back to civilization I can return it as there is no way to fix it.

Makes a great expresso even when camping
More or less does what it says on the tin. Makes a great expresso even when camping. Best to heat the "cup":first. Good crema. If you lust after an expresso and are "off grid" this is for you

Excellent for a month
Impressed with the quality of the espresso being produced. However the build could do with an improvement. Unfortunately it cracked after a month.

Excellent coffee but a bit heavy if you plan backpacking
Excellent coffee. Of course it will depends by the blend of coffee you put in. Easy to use. The only little disadvantage, for me personally, is the fact that it's a bit heavy. I'm planning to bring it with me when (wild)-camping/bivvying/travel to improve my breakfast.
