Great bargain home...
Now I know Shapton/Naninwa etc are the go-to hones for straight razor aficionado's but if you get past the stone snobbery and are on a budget or just want to try your hand at honing before investing the 100's that the full range of grits will cost you. I recommend giving this a go..Obviously soak per instructions and go very light. You're not mashing the blade your gently rubbing the surface - more or less the weight of the blade only. And that applies to a straight razor or a kitchen knife. If you spend time on this stone and use a strop and paste after, you'll get a phenomenally good edge on a kitchen blade and a great straight razor edge. Definitely worth a go if never tried.Ultimately though you get what you pay for, you might get pitting and wear. But it's easily flattnable again - and at this price cheap to replace.Go watch a few honing YouTube videos prior to knife sharpening and you'll be fine.Word of warning dry these per the instructions. Drying too fast will likely crack them..Highly recommend!!

excellent for finishing, but wears down fast
I have 2 criticisms:1. The block is thin, admittedly, the size is quite clearly displayed, but for £20 I would have expected it a little thicker. The thinner block is a bit of an issue for me as one of the knives I have has a protrusion on the handle that is only just missing the surface the stone is on and it is a little awkward. On other knives it isn't an issue.2. The block had a slight concave finish. It was early noticeable, but before I started I noticed that the blade was not making contact throughout. A straight edged rule confirmed my suspicions. Not a major problem as I could easily flatten it off with a diamond block I had.As for the block itself it is really good. I had a new knife that had a reasonable finish, but I could see feint grind marks from the 'assembly line' sharpening it had. 10 mins on the block and it was turning up a nice metal paste that polished up the blade edge to razor perfection.EDIT: Now have 3 criticisms which is causing me to drop it another star:3. The stone wears out quite fast. I've only been using this for about a dozen knives to finish them off after a 4000/8000 stone has got them up to the finish line. The stone is now showing dipping across the middle. I grind across the whole stone as much as I can, but obviously the edges don't get used as much. This has the effect of highlighting the wear of the stone.

THESE STONES WORK
This stone is a superb stone , I shave with straight razors I have had a very good shave of this stone. I start with the ANG 1000-6000 then the WEI WEI 2000-5000 then the ANG 3000-8000 stone then the finishing stone 10000 WEI WEI stone. I have a serious habit of buying stones, I have all sorts of finishing stones. All these stones work great. I restore vintage razors if you use the progression method of sharpening razors you will not go wrong with these stones. No doubt the shaptons and the naniwas are brilliant stones I don't own any of them . If you are like me and on a budget go for these!!! you wont regret it. I have done this review because I have watched countless videos on expensive stones , but there's not enough information on budget stones. So I chanced it with these stones ,these stones are brilliant thanks happy sharpening hope this has been helpful to someone.

A bit disappointing
Decent stone but the edges are fragile and chip easily, even while you are sharpening.

Waste of money
Do not waste your money on this 10k grit stone. I already have a 800 grit and it is courser than it.
