I am pleased to say I am pleasantly surprised and that it works very well. The block is huge and should last a considerable amount of time even if you would be using it on a daily basis. The block applies to a strop well and easy to get a even(ish) coat down onto the leather. I dabble in a little bit of knife making as a hobby and used it to hone the edge of my two latest knives and it quickly and easily polished the edge to a razor finish so sharp I could literally shave my arms with the knives (standard internet knife sharpening test... check out any knife sharpening video on Youtube). So I am very happy with my purchase and would certainly buy again and I will be trying the other versions of compound Silverline sell... shame they can't make tools that work anywhere near as well as this stuff. Review: This is good stuff - I probably don't know how to use it "properly"... I use a felt wheel on a handheld rotary device. I use this on edges that I've used whet stones with. It makes a lovely polished finish. I'm very happy with this. How does it differ from the blue, brown and white compound ?** A: Hi there, hope your well. I have used the green and the white compounds for final Polishing of woodcarving knives, chisels and gouges. I am unsure of the exact chemistry but my opinion is that the green compound is the more abrasive and is the one that I use exclusively. The white I find takes very little metal off and thus I sometimes use it after the green. To be honest, I find the green does the job to get my woodcarving tools razer sharp such that it takes little effort to carve even hardwoods. There are other factors to bare in mind which have a great impact such as metal type and quality and technique (probably the most important) . Hope it helps. **Q: I have some of this for honing woodwork tools. Could it be used to polish a sprayed clear coat finish on a project?** A: I would not recommend trying that. You would have to break the green compound down into a creamy liquid - not easy. Also, how "hard" is your clear coat finish? If it is at all rubbery, you will not be able to polish it. I would suggest you try something like "Everbuild PVCC1 PVCU Cream Cleaner" - I've used similar products on PVC, or something like "GLASS POLISH GP14011 Plastic and Acrylic cutting compound, removes haziness, surface marks, restores discoloured surface". As with sandpaper and wet and dry paper, the finer the particle size, the longer it will take to get the surface flat, but the better the gloss. **Q: Which colour would be best for loading onto a leather strop for sharpening knives?** A: It depends on the steel you are trying to restore the edge on and how blunt your knife is. A strop will only refine an already sharp knife. For touching up a knife with a fairly good edge, I would think green on a smooth leather strop would be a good starting point. A blunt knife will require something a little more aggressive.
