Top psyco-rock!
This is the first Hawkwind album that I bought - back in the days when albums were black and you had the option of playing them at the wrong speed. I only bought it because of the cover, but was happily blown away after I'd heard it for the first time. I would say that the only album that they did that was better than this was Warrior on The Edge of Time (when are they going to release an official copy of that on CD?). Lemmy's influence on the bass line is unmistakable and truly awesome, the diversity between Brainstorm, the title track and Lost Johnny will leave you a little bewildered at first but stick with it, if you don't like this album at the first listening you will find that it will grow on you eventually. Top band, top record!

A Hawkwind Masterpiece
I have enjoyed this band since the 70's and would say that this is certainly one of their best albums (...maybe even their best). This would be at the top of my list to recommend to someone that wants to listen to Hawkwind for the first time.

Welcome back...
This was my first Hawkwind vinyl as a young lad. I played it to death, so it is great to finally have it in my life again on CD. I'd forgotten how perfect the intro to 'It's So Easy' actually is...

Futures & Pasts
As Hawkwind were releasing in 1977 their 'Quark,Strangeness & Charm' LP, their previous company (United artists) released this compilation.Intended as a quick cash in, it actually showed how the group were evolving. The difference in the sleeve designs couldn't have been more strikingHawkwind were progressing from being a 'space rock' group looking to the future to actually sounding (with their new lp) like a band that intended to be part of it .As the excellent 'Roadhawks' compilation isn't being repressed it's good that this is.This disc features a seemingly random selection of some of their best, from the classic guitar riff opening track(used in a Ford Bmax car advert in 2012),thru the frantic heavy assault of 'brainstorm',the extended freeform groove of 'orgone accumulator' to the Lemmy led 'lost Johnny' & the "justified paranoia" of 'sonic attack'-which spoils the musical flow somewhat (& isn't a track I would have picked, but is liked by other Hawkfans).Running in at under 40mins,it can't be accused of 'overstaying its welcome' but does look unusual now that compilation CDs are often twice that length. It's available used at good prices, which makes it worth buying just to keep in the car or for use as 'back up tracks' (CDs don't last forever as were originally promoted!) and if you've heard of the band but know little of their records(apart from 'silver machine'?) then this is a good introduction to their earlier output & may give you an idea if you'd like to hear some more of their very good early to mid 70s LPs- nearly all available at low prices & with extra tracks on most..

A fan album to be fair
This is a compilation album of Hawkwind's 70's works released in 1977. I would say this is more of a fan album. If you're new to Hawkwind maybe it would be better to check out other albums first. I'm going to be completely honest, there are a lot of progressive rock bands from the 70's I would rather listen to over Hawkwind, but every now and then I get that itch where I'm in the mood for something really progressive, weird and different. That's usually when I pop out the Hawkwind and Zappa records. There's some great songs on here like "Brainstorm" or "Orgone accumulator". I really enjoy the opening of the title track, I really feel it sets the mood for what's to come. "Lost Johnny" was written by Lemmy I believe, and Motorhead covered early in their career. There's not a great deal I can add, Hawkwind have a very eccentric almost impenetrable sound, to sit here and explain it would definitely be a fruitless exercise.Just thought I would add a little story about how I discovered this album. Years ago I was travelling down the Motorway at night, and stopped off at a service station. I walked into a shop, and by the counter they were selling cassettes of "Masters of the universe" just randomly among the M&M's and crisps, it was just so random and there weren't any cassettes of any other artists. At the time I was very into heavy metal, and I knew Lemmy had been in Hawkwind, I thought the album had an air of mystique about it so bought it. At the time it didn't sink in how random it was. But years later I scratch my head over finding this Hawkwind cassette in a service station shop on an obscure stretch of motorway...it was so random and peculiar! That kind of fluke find just wouldn't happen in 2017!!!

Enjoyable Stories
I have been a fan of Hawkwind for the past 40 years and do enjoy listening to their music.. I have not seen any new albums until I accidently saw the one Amazon advertised on the boob-toob and this put the interest back into looking for any new musics they may have produced..
