Intex 28051E Solar Cover Reel

Update: we’ve had this reel on the pool for a week over July 4th. We have used it several times to move the solar cover. It is terrific. Even had big kids rough housing and the reel hung on with all of the wobbling that happens when waves occur. I am so glad we have it. It’s worth the money and designed great. I crank about a quarter of the cover and straighten up the edges on the reel and repeat until I have a great roll on the reel. I use a couple of ropes to tie up the roll so our Frequent windy weather doesn’t catch it. The cover causes the water to temp to stay very warm. Too warm sometimes so I am removing the cover in the afternoon to let the water cool a bit. The hot water messes with the PH. Rashes occur. I need to keep putting in the Sodium Bicarbonate. You do lose about a foot of your pool to this but it’s worth it for the easy off and back on! Good product!

This reel makes daily opening and closing of the pool SO easy! It was easy to install and worth the money!

I struggled between giving this a 4 or 5 star review. So think of it as a 4.5. Here are my reasons. Pros: The reel is easy to assemble and works fine for my small pool (10 ft width). What more can you say? Since I am using this for an in-ground pool, I needed to construct some feet out of 2” PVC. (See picture) I filled the feet with sand to give them some weight and painted them charcoal gray to match the unit. The reel attaches easily to the 2” PVC. Cons: These are all really minor - so don’t take them as big problems. The reel does sag a bit when the cover is rolled up, but does not affect the function. The clips can rotate on the shaft and need to be repositioned occasionally. All in all this was a great solution for my solar cover storage. Even though it is made for an above ground pool it works great for me.

It reels up super fast and easy. It unreels the same. It takes the chore out of opening and closing the pool. Absolutely fantastic so far. It doesn’t noticeably sag, it is surprisingly sturdy. The plastic seems to be a very strong and good quality. I also don’t notice any extra strain on any of the parts when reeling in the cover which to me says it will last longer. Setup took me less than 20 minutes, and some of that was spent untangling the ropes. I’ll update the post if anything changes.

I purchase this reel to use with a 12 x 24 solar cover (Intex). The reel works great. The only issue so far is that one of the clips no longer clips on the cover. I left the cover a little long so it doesn’t unwind to the clips, so it works great. The cover is heavy enough that it rolls very well on the reel without puckering. However, it takes two people to pull the cover over the pool. I haven’t tried it from inside the pool to see if I can cover it by myself. Overall, I am very pleased with it.

Seems flimsy when first removing from the box but it is not. It was easy to install and only took a few minutes. It holds the solar cover with ease to help keep my pool from losing heat overnight. I can now enjoy my pool after sunset. I have found no problems so far and I have been using for about 1 month. Wish I had purchased sooner!

Works as described but they are certainly pushing the limits of this by saying it goes up to 16ft. We have the intex 32’x16’ and the cover we purchased that attaches to this sags pretty heavily in the center from the weight. It’s a solar cover. The poles aren’t nearly as sturdy as I thought they’d be. Does the job, but am disappointed in the sagging. I’m sure it’d work really great for anything under 16’.

A few things to know. Maybe I was expecting too much but after installing it (very easy and lightweight), we noticed it does not like to roll up straight or tight. It ends up being pretty large with my 18 foot solar cover. So it takes up a bit of room at the end of the pool. Another thing is as you roll it up, all the tree bits and whatever landed on it will go in the water. I’m not sure this is completely avoidable so not really a fault. If you don’t have a roller and just fold up like I was doing, I was able to keep most debris from falling in the pool. I did move mine off the end of the pool with some galvanized pipe so that helps with the space issue. All that being said it’s way more convenient than what I was doing before.

I sent it back as it arrived late and they did not refund me instead they refunded me for my pool pump that has now failed to work and told me to buy new one they are a disgrace sincerely M.Burns going to get legal advice

I was surprised at how much bigger and sturdier this reel is because on the pics it looks like a flimsy little thing. I only ordered it, because my pool is tiny, 7x10 ft and I thought even this will do. Installing it is a breeze, the 2 holders just need to be screwed onto the railing of the pool and the extendable rods (there are 3 of them plus a short addition to fit onto one end) can be easily added. The telescoping rods can be adjusted to any length between the shortest and longest size. The whole assembly can't take more than 5 minutes after unboxing. Adding the clips is slightly harder, they are quite tight. They hold the cover well with the clips. I am using it along the longer side of the pool (10 ft), and rolling the cover in and out is very easy. Although the instructions say to take off the reel before swimming, I would never do that, it would be too much of a hassle and it takes up no room at all. Considering how sturdy it is, it is also a pretty good value for the price.
