EB Stone Bone Meal 15 lbs.
N**T
Formerly Great Product Now Destructive to Plants
I was a fan of E.B. Stone's bone meal fertilizer for about 20 years. I recommended it to everybody. Now I caution everybody to avoid it like the plague. In 2014 I purchased two packages to use for a large landscaping project. As soon as I opened the first package I noticed that the "bone meal" was a different color than it had been for decades (shades of gray instead of shades of beige). Trusting E.B. Stone, I used it anyway. Big mistake. Everything that it touched died.Peonies dead. Rose bushes dead. Australian finger lime dead. Peruvian scilla dead. Grape hyacinths dead. Avocado trees dead.My local garden center was stumped. I brought in pictures of, and sample leaves from, one of my dying avocado trees and they could not attribute its condition to any known factor, such as too much/little water, insufficient/excessive iron, etc.I contacted E.B. Stone and they admitted that their Chinese supplier of bone meal did "change the formula" but they refused to do a chemical analysis of the product they were receiving from their Chinese supplier. So, if you are still considering buying this product, let me suggest a test that you can do at home: Get your dog (or borrow one from a friend) and put this product in front of the dog. Normally, dogs go nuts for bone meal fertilizer because, duh, it contains bones, but your test dogs (like my own) will just sniff the product and walk away bored. That should be enough to prove to you that whatever is in the package is not bone meal.E.B. Stone -- shame on you.
