Product is great, installation is not
I had a very hard time deciding if I should give this three stars or four stars. I got this because I wanted tune up software for my laptop and this was the best I could find. Installing this product was a nightmare. The installer crashed half way through the installation corrupting the install files. When I tried deleting the corrupted files to try again I got a pop up telling me I didn't have the right user privileges. I had to reboot my laptop in safe mode in order to manually remove these files. Reboot again in normal mode and try the installation again. After doing this a couple of times the product finally installed correctly. So I would rate the install process of this program 0 stars. However, once I got the product up and running it has been great. The tune up part of the software did a great job at locating and deleting unnecessary files (freeing up 14.2 GB of space on my hard drive) and even puts background programs that don't need to run to sleep until you or an application uses them. I assume that the antivirus is good but I haven't really gotten a virus yet so I wouldn't really know (I don't visit dodgy websites or download random files from the internet). I have been very satisfied with the product when it works but AVG really needs to work on their installation process.

Excellent performance and doesnt bog down your machine.
Ive been using anti-virus and malware protection since the early Norton anti-virus days so a good 20+ years. I am generally pretty loyal to one firm for long periods but have found Norton/Symantec, McAfee and others became slower and more bloated over time. And didn't protect against rootkits or DNS spoofing or a variety of other nasties. I always layered on the free version of Malware Bytes and occasionally a rootkit hunter from some crazy Danish lab. But AVG seems to do all that pretty well without getting in the way. I'm no fan of the nickel and dime approach used- paying for each piece separately so AVG Ultimate, from Amazon is usually the best deal. I also buy a couple of Driver updaters from AVG since they bust through the various update issues that Dell and Windows trip over. AVG also found some ancient keyloggers in my very old archives which was impressive. I knew they were there- they were part of a commercial program that used it for troubleshooting, but nice they spotted it. I also use AVG tune up on the computers my kids use because those are a hot mess by the time they have run them for a few months. Its OK. I also like the AVG account approach which they used to call "Zen" but is now just "account" as it allows me to deploy to new machines. So all in all this is my favorite multi- computer deployable solution for the foreseeable future.

Disappointing product with some good features. Frustrating and tedious to work with.
I am changing my review on this product. Originally I thought is was the worst software product I have ever purchased and gave it a one star. I have been using AVG Antivirus Free for 10 years. It has served me well. When my Wife's laptop all but stopped on her, I suggested that she purchase the AVG Ultimate, the bonus was that you could use it on your other computers and phones. We gave up on her computer and Windows 10 and she now has a Google Chromebook and her complaints have all but gone away. I am no longer her tech support. So I decided to install this program on my Windows 10 computer. In the end it seems to have worked out fine, but I have to say the user interface is complicated and not at all intuitive. It could certainly benefit from some onscreen instructions. I spent countless hours messing with the software to get it to say my computer was 100% tuned up and protected from viruses. I still have not gotten there and probably never will. It wants me to delete all my pictures that have the same name as duplicates, which is not the case for 15 year old digital photos as the camera often used duplicate numbers to identify the pictures. So my PC tuneup sits at 83%. There is no way that I could find to exclude certain folders or directories.I appreciated the registry clean-up. I think that did a good job or streamlining the boot-up. Mostly the computer runs as good as it did when it was new.The VPN, virtual private network, block is nothing more than a come on to get you to purchase more software. You can install this package for free for 30 days at which time I am sure AVG will be asking for more money, much more money. And, the Web Tuneup still sits in its non-activated state as it does not do anything. Following the on-screen click box that instructs you to open my web browser to install the software. Nothing happens. I have simply given up on this feature. In the end the results are disappointingly ok. My computer is running efficiently and sometimes boots up like a rocket, and sometimes not. Opening new screens or moving between screens is quick. One of the reasons I initially installed this was to fix an erratic mouse pad that while scrolling goes absolutely crazy from time to time, completely losing my place in whatever article I am reading. No help there, it is still a problem. When I decided to add my phone to this software it offered me two options, install with ads or install without ads. Since I paid for this feature one would assume you could install without ads. If you don't want ads you pay another $12 per year. Not gona happen AVG!So basically this product seems like a come on to get you to purchase more software.
