I use raw milk to make yogurt. I am looking for a unit that heats the milk, cools it, and then goes into incubating mode. Does this unit do that?

The yogurt maker does not heat & cool down the milk before incubation.  The directions do say that you do not have to heat & cool the milk before incubation.  However, after several less than satisfying attempts, I have found I have a better consistency of yogurt if I do the preincubation process.  
I'm quite happy with the yogurt maker even with the preheating/cooling process.

Your on your own with the recipe essentially, but that shouldn’t deter from making yogurt because each person must experiment to get the consistency and results they expect and prefer, then write it down for future reference. Use any general yogurt recipe and thin or thicken accordingly with time and varied ingredients. For instance, before everyone was making their own Greek yogurt, I thickened mine with Borden’s or Carnation low fat powdered milk, then incubated for longer. The main thing is to not kill your live cultures with milk that’s too hot. I used 110 degrees for safety. The culture can be packaged (pricey) or by using plain yogurt with a live culture. To save money you can get Walmart’s brand Great Value plain Greek yogurt and it works fine, but always check the label to ensure it has the live cultures to start with like you would with a sour dough or any bread using yeast. Anything over 110 F can kill yogurt cultures which is why you want to use a thermometer to be safe. There are thermometers designed just for this on the market which are marked for you if necessary and clip on to hold them. I only ever flavored mine afterward when it’s cooled down or refrigerated. You can use a number of things for this, cocoa powder, instant coffee. Matcha powder, vanilla extract and so forth. Whatever floats your boat!
