Doesn't explain how the system works
The authors do a poor job of explaining the rules. They'll drone on in a section trying to fill space then drop problems on you with "See 9-322(a) comment 4 and 5".I had a Corp. Taxation book using this same problem method and it was great. They would explain the way the code worked, drop a bit of policy talk, and maybe give an example before setting you on the problems. If they gave you a "See" reference it was for specific exceptions. Here Warren uses it as the entirety of their teaching method. Seems lazy.If you're a professor that loves cold calling and playing games with students, I guess this book is for you.If you're a student that wants to learn secured transactions, good luck.

Secured transactions is a very complicated subject, based primarily on confusing Article 9 statutes. It really takes dedication to understand the subject. However, this book makes it seemingly impossible to understand the subject matter. The authors seem to assume that its readers have a wealth of base information, do not fully explain things, and write with confusing syntax. In addition to confusing syntax, the authors employ passive voice, which distracts the reader from the material. The authors use run-on sentences to explain Article 9 statutes with the result of further misunderstandings. The authors should break apart their explanations of the statutes so a reader can take the archaic Article 9 language one piece at a time. The authors do a very poor job of communicating and teaching the reader this advanced subject, instead relying upon sometimes impossible hypotheticals for the reader to figure it out itself. Although I do not blame the authors for my confusion in this subject area, they certainly do not help clarify the principles of this subject. Even reading the statute in conjunction with the text does not provide any clarity. I would highly recommend the poor student tasked with getting through this dense literature to purchase a study aid because these authors do not understand what it means to start out as a novice trying to tackle Article 9 and all its exceptions.
