Language Learner Literature An easy Spanish reader containing just 55 new vocabulary words and English-Spanish cognates. Normal capybaras swim well. Carlos is the only capybara in the desertcart Rainforest who can't swim. Things don't look good for Carlos away from the water. Review: Great for beginning Spanish students! - Wonderful book for beginning Spanish students! Easy to understand with lots of cognates but still creates a sense of accomplishment. The story is entertaining and my Spanish class students have enjoyed reading it with requests to continue the series. Review: Beloved silly book - I read this with all of my students. It’s the perfect difficulty and silliness for the end of a 7th grade semester class. (Not sure if included, but the teacher’s guide is excellent. It has everything you need to make this a solid 3-4 week unit, if desired)

Great teaching tool!
When I was substitute teaching in a 7th grade class, a couple of boys found out I was a retired Spanish teacher and wanted me to teach them some Spanish. I just happened to have a copy of El Capibara con Botas in my bag, so I started reading it to them. I explained the words they didn't know and because of the repetition in the book, they were starting to remember the words. They got excited when the realized they were really reading Spanish!

Print error
5 star plot and vocabulary selection for my elementary students. Unfortunately, my book was printed incorrectly. Page 22 skips to page 35, leaving out A LOT of action! I found the missing pages in the dictionary in the back. I'll have to figure out a way to remind the book so my students can read it.

Perfect for level 2+/3 spanish
This is a great (and cute) book if you're looking for another high level 2, or level 3 book in Spanish that also teaches informative content with verb and vocabulary! Capibaras have become our classroom mascot because of this text!

For a simple story with a limited vocabulary, the story is very engaging. I have used it as a read aloud with my youngest, novice low elementary students and as first “chapter book” for my 4th graders. This book could easily be read independently by Spanish 1 students once they have just a few of the most common present tense verbs. The introduction in English helps to create interest and the glossary is great. I recommend this book for novice Spanish learners of any age.

Engaging and positive
This book is great! It’s engaging and easy to read. It also has a great message! I love how the kids can look up the words they don’t know in the back. I can’t wait to use it with my 6th graders!

Wonderful CI reader
This book is "top five" in my FVR library, very popular with my students! It's an adorable story that I've used tutoring younger students (aged 7-8) and that my high schoolers choose for free reading, too.
